It was an incredible honour to be asked by Leek Polish Connection to play a ceremonial role for their 80th Anniversay event on Sunday.

The event comemmorated 80 years to the day when the first Polish personnel and their dependants arrived at the Resettlement Corps camp in Blackshaw Moor, Leek.

We wore uniform featuring the insignia of the 3rd Carpathian Rifles as it was worn in 1946-47 during the process of resettlement in the UK.
We also set up a small display featuring elements of Polish II Korpus, Polish Air Force in Exile, and Polish air and ground crew within the Royal Air Force. This was to represent the Polish involvement in allied operations in the air, on land, and at sea.

Thanks again to our supporters, especially in the sky Droneography and Photography for the incredible pictures, and all who came from far and wide to make this day so special.

"Unarmed combat demo in five minutes! Come and see me get my backside kicked...again...😒😆"

We had an epic time at Peak Rail 1940s weekend working alongside our great friends and partners in OpJed44 LHG!

-The show was back to it's best after many years of rebuilding thanks to the steadfast dedication of the organisers and railway!

-The theme being "Espionage" meant we had to take a more direct approach to some elements of display as apparently we were too skilled at staying secret! 🤫🫣😅

-Unarmed combat demo was a roaring success and proved as popular as ever with visitors and other LHGs alike!

-We even had chance to add a Polish flavour to the battle on both days: Saturday the AK assisted by providing intel in a (Hollywood ;) ) multinational Allied force, not to mention laying down covering fire!
On Sunday the Polish Independant Parachute Brigade was represented and added a visible and audible Polish language flair to proceedings ;)

The Leek Polish Connection will be celebrating the 80th Anniversary
of Polish Soldiers arriving at Blackshaw Moor Camp.

You are invited to these celebrations and can witness the symbolic arrival of Polish personnel to the camp at Blackshaw Moor.

-Listen to our Chair, Barbara, as she recalls life at the camp.

-Take this opportunity to lay floral tributes to your ancestors, who
would have commenced life here in England.

-Talk to the people who spent most of their early days living on the camp.

-There is a possibility of walking round the camp led by either Steve,
Tony or Zbysh. Visit the sights of Christina’s Meadows, Barbara’s School
and the ‘Elite Corner’.

-Talk to our local genealogist to see if he’s got any information on your
loved one.

We hope to see you there!

We forgot to post yesterday! Woops! 😅

We are here with OpJed44 at Peak Rail for their 1940s weekend.

-It is July 1944 and Akcja Burza (Operation Tempest) is taking place!

-Cell "Stefan" is preparing for an attack on the German garrison in nearby Kraków.

-The Cichociemni have dropped in their agent "Mateusz" and linked up with the local Home Army.

-Unarmed combat display at 12:30

Keep your eyes and ears open as espionage is rife around the area and trust noone!

Oh boy it has been a warm one at Glossop Heritage Weekend today! 🥵

Even whilst performing our finest Gunner "Lofty" Sugden impression today, we have had great interactions with public regarding the development of the Polish community locally, and more broadly as a direct result of the war.

With my own family history intrinsically linked to Glossop, we have operated a split display alongside RAF Harpur Hill-LHG who portray the Royal Air Force Mountain Rescue Service.

We are back again tomorrow so make sure you come down to Norfolk Square to get a slice of all that is going on! 😁

We are very excited to be returning and doubling up on display with RAF Harpur Hill-LHG at Glossop Heritage Weekend tomorrow and Sunday! 😁

For us, heritage is lived daily-roughly 85 years separates the two photos below, and we think both Aircraftmen S. Józefczyk(s) are uncanny!
Keep an eye out for us in our KD kit this weekend and come and chat about the way a little piece of Poland made itself at home in the hills of Derbyshire!
