Heylipol, Tiree

From its humble beginnings in the rocky outcrops at Balephetrish, “Tiree pink marble” as it’s known locally or “Isla Rosa” in the high streets of Edinburgh town, has had in the last few hundred years captured the attention of a handful of geologists and commercial interests.

You can read more about the rock in a recent paper by William Welstead, titled - Tiree’s pink marble and the geologists who made it famous. At An Iodhlann, Tiree’s historical centre.
