The Lowry

The Lowry A spectacular waterside building housing theatres, galleries, restaurant, café/bars and gift shop.

Situated on the waterside at the heart of The Quays, The Lowry is a stunning, award winning building housing two vibrant theatres, a studio space, relaxing art galleries, cafés, bars, a restaurant and souvenir gift shop. With a huge variety of performances, The Lowry's Lyric and Quays Theatres offer a wealth of fabulous entertainment, including West End musicals, the very best in drama, live bands, famous comedians, plus world class dance and opera. From Peter Kay to the Kirov Ballet, Morrissey to Alan Bennett and much more, you'll find something to appeal to all tastes. Gallery entry is free and you can enjoy the work of one of the nation's favourite artists, LS Lowry, in changing exhibitions of his work which we hope will offer some surprises. At the same time, experience work by artists of local, national and international renown to compliment our Lowry exhibitions. There's always something new and refreshing to see in our galleries. With family fun throughout the building, guided tours, the Meet Mr Lowry film, plus participatory activity for all ages, The Lowry is a great day out.

To cross ‘the house’

This House is a notable production in that it is one of a few shows where the audience get to cross ‘the house’ (to keep up the parliamentary metaphors), or the ‘fourth wall’ as it is known in theatre terms. In other words, they can sit onstage and be part of the action, in this case on the benches of the House of Commons. They even opened the bar onstage in the interval!

It is rare of course that audiences in The Lowry’s Lyric Theatre are able to journey backstage and take advantage of such a different point of view. Other notable productions to feature onstage seating were National Theatre of Scotland’s James Plays, Clod Ensemble’s An Anatomie in Four Quarters and Nigel Slater’s Toast, where the whole audience was onstage with the empty auditorium as a dramatic backdrop.

Have you watched a show from onstage of the Lyric? What was it like? Can you name any others?

National Theatre Live present this week online the glorious political drama THIS HOUSE – a tale of Westminster treachery, deals and betrayals set in 1974. The Lowry’s Creative Team share with you o…

Over 2 weeks ago I requested a refund for an event that has already passed. Although I am totally understanding of the situation and that they are short staffed, customer services has ignored 4 of my emails. Interesting when I messaged on fb I got reply from a manager within 30 mins with one excuse after another. So they have time to sit on face book but far too busy to reply to an email from 2 weeks ago. I dont think that its acceptable that they still have my money when they knew events have been cancelled. If you want to keep customers in the future Lowry and its vital that you do, this simply is not good enough. I booked events in May with ticketmaster and ATG and got refunded straight away. So now like many of us..I have no choice but to wait for a refund which sounds like it could take weeks or months?
Rip off merchants. Cancel a show and then charge booking fees of £12.61 which involved putting 4 tickets in an envelope and posting them (61p). Never going again and removed from their mailing lists.
Hi I have not heard from you at all re tickets we had for Carlos Acosta. Will happily have a voucher rather than refund.
I am Absolutely FUMING with The Lowry at the moment! Myself and my daughter both have lowered immunity and pre existing conditions and my husband is our carer. We're supposed to be seeing Milton Jones this Saturday and much as I love him I will not risk any of our lives going in a close crowd of 2-3000 people plus. I dont care how much hand sanitiser is around and how much handle cleansing the staff are doing. Its sheer folly to come to the show. BUT because govt guidelines in England havnt limited gatherings of over 500 yet, (.Scotland has!), The Lwory are refusing to give us a refund. Up till now The Lowry has always been my favourite venue for Disability. But not at the moment. How mean spirited and dishonourable can you be for the sake of profit? So we either risk getting Covid 19 and possibly dying from it or loose £60 plus which is alot of money ! Shame on you Lowry!
Had a fantastic night watching Swan Lake last night! Was a modern take on the story that did not disappoint!! Special thank you to Hilary and other staff who offered assistance with out hesitation to ensure we had a fabulous lowry/ballet experience which we did! Amazing!
Ghost Stories........ If you enjoy great story telling with moments that shock and scare then this is a must see. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Congratulations to all.
The Lowry is much vaunted Our Lowry, "tickets for locals" turns out to be bogus. I bought 3 tickets for Sarah and duck at full price £50. Then five days later their discount email turns up, but they won't exchange the tickets for the discounted tickets, and they won't refund your money either. Not so much Our Lowry as Their Lowry. Pathetic.
What great information thank you for the details on the party
