Soon to be added to the range of boxwood combs on the website... these Roman combs are based on finds from the Roman fort at Vindolanda and, as with all our combs, is supplied with it's own leather pouch. The combs are cut on an angle from either side, rather than straight through like tudor combs and are finished with file and knife only. They are treated with olive oil.

Working my way through the endless list of odd jobs I seem to have accrued over the years... This narrow belt, with original buckle and tang, has now been stamped down the whole length and dyed a deep red. It is about 6mm/0.25 inches wide and 1.5m/59 inches long. The buckle dates from 1300-1400. Available on the website soon, or pm me here. A real one-off piece!

Ok, due to this horrible virus, we will not be trading at #torm this November. This is devastating for us, and probably disappointing for many of our customers but sadly we have little choice in this instance. Please continue to order from us, and place your commissions. We have not, and will not cease trading, and look forward to hearing from you!

Just received these back from my casters. Over the moon to have the bronze thimbles back in stock (I'll update the website shortly, but I think it still lists 2 in stock). The bronze St John and Virgin pendants in bronze will replace the pewter ones currently on the website. Again, website updated when I get the chance, but listed as in stock in any event. The brass lion's heads will go on the dividers when I finally get a model I'm happy with as the current one isn't quite there yet.

Every now and then a job comes along that reminds you of your mortality. This 3 inch high desk urn was made to hold a handful of ashes after a friend's father passed away.

I posted out a lovely boxwood rosary today, and in doing so realised I have an awful lot of bone and horn rosaries that aren't listed on my website. So I thought I'd put them up on here first, then if they don't sell, I'll put them onto the Specials page on the website. They'll be cheaper if you buy them here though, as it takes a lot more time to post them there, and the postage rate is fixed. I'll add the prices on underneath each when the pics are up. The majority are Mary Rose pattern, two are miniatures and 2 are single decades on stone rings. Postage on each will be £2.50. Might take a wee while as there are 11...

Back on brush making again for a while. This one is based on one that appears in a Hoogstraten still life and is fabric over a wooden core with white bristles. And was an absolute bu88er to make! Still finding bristles scattered around the lounge...

Seriously considering changing my displays at the market to something along these lines, with just a few open boxes in front. I quite like the idea of the randomness of it and being able to switch and change the stock on show as it sells. Plus the wooden boxes are starting to get old and decrepit... just like me!

A little something I'm working on. The 3 deep oval plaster casts are made from some moulds I took from original neo-classica panels in our families collection. Sadly, we no longer have the originals so I thought I'd try making casts of them for a current project. When I can get a decent one that I can add the last few details to, I'll mount them in matched frames to hang. It's a bit of labour of love, but it would be nice to see them up on the wall. The shallower oval disc showing a Father and Son scene is from an original renaissance bronze I acquired some time ago. Eventually I hope to get bronze casts made of it to sell, if people are interested?

Just debating with myself over how many pairs of dividers I should get cast... spending money in large lumps was never something I was comfortable with (especially now!)... lets hope it's worth it!

These are the 3 pewter inkwells cast from the clay mould I made. You can see the deterioration in the mould from front to back. The mould broke after the third, but I plan on remaking the core and doing one last cast in lead.
The front inkwell is filed and sanded, the middle is filed and hammered, and back one is more or less rough as cast with just the base levelled off.
All the inkwell are hollow formed, so not just drilled cubes, made by an unpredictable 2 part casting process...

I finally got round to casting the 'other' Mary Rose inkwell. The original is cast in lead, and while I can do that if requested, I am currently casting them in pewter. They are still quite weighty and certainly sit well! £30 plus postage, on the specials page soon, or pm me here.

Question... I already make round, flat and triangular awls for leather sewing. If I made slickers in boxwood for edge finishing, would people be interested in buying them?
You'll find us at 28-2 Cricket Hall this weekend #torm #happytrading
