Artist spotlight from the ‘Coastal Connections: Wild Swimming and the South Wales Coastline’ exhibition: Emily Unsworth White
Emily is a multimedia artist and a community arts facilitator. Her exhibiting artworks document aspects of her ‘Save our Avon’ project which was completed in a programme of community events this June. ‘Save our Avon’ is inspired by Bristol’s local swimming group, Conham Bathing, who have been advocating for bathing status of the Conham area, and testing the water quality and pollutants since 2021.
‘Swimmers to Source’ documents a pilgrimage Emily has embarked upon from the Conham swimmers in Bristol to the river’s source in Didmarton. Over three consecutive days Emily travelled the river by boat, and its footpaths by tandem bicycle and on foot. The fibres have been collected along the route and woven into the final tapestry artwork which celebrates the Avon River.

Sylw i Artistiaid o Arddangosfa ‘Cysylltiadau Arfordirol: Nofio Gwyllt ac Arfordir De Cymru’: Emily Unsworth White
Mae Emily yn artist amlgyfrwng ac yn hwylusydd celfyddydau cymunedol. Mae ei gwaith celf sy’n cael ei arddangos yn dogfennu agweddau ar ei phrosiect ‘Save our Avon’, a fydd yn cael ei gwblhau mewn rhaglen o ddigwyddiadau cymunedol ym mis Mehefin eleni. Mae ‘Save our Avon’ wedi’i ysbrydoli gan grŵp nofio lleol o Fryste, Conham Bathing, sydd wedi bod yn eirioli dros statws ymdrochi ardal Conham ac yn profi ansawdd dŵr a llygryddion ers 2021.
Mae ‘Swimmers to Source’ yn dogfennu pererindod y mae Emily wedi cychwyn arni o fan nofwyr Conham ym Mryste i darddiad yr afon yn Didmarton. Dros dri diwrnod yn olynol, teithiodd Emily mewn cwch ar hyd yr afon ac ar feic tandem ac ar droed ar hyd y llwybrau cerdded. Mae’r ffibrau wedi’u casglu ar hyd y daith a’u plethu i mewn i’r gwaith celf tapestri terfynol sy’n dathlu Afon Avon.

‘Enigma’ – the video piece by Adam McCusker, is part of his multimedia installation in the ‘You Scrub Up Well’ exhibition at the Hearth Gallery.
‘Using my own internal experiences, I use photography [and video making] as an invitation to view my world.
Cystic Fibrosis is a surreal world unknown to others but understood by us as ‘the sufferers’.
Through this project, I intend to provoke an essential discussion on how art can be vital to understanding a health condition’
- Adam McCusker, 2022

Mae ‘Enigma’ – y darn fideo gan Adam McCusker, yn rhan o’i osodiad amlgyfrwng yn yr arddangosfa ‘You Scrub Up Well’ yn Oriel yr Aelwyd.
‘Gan dynnu ar fy mhrofiadau mewnol fy hun, rwy’n defnyddio ffotograffiaeth [a gwneud fideos] fel gwahoddiad i weld fy myd.
Mae Ffeibrosis Systig yn fyd swreal sy’n anhysbys i eraill ond yn cael ei ddeall gennym ni fel ‘y dioddefwyr’.
Drwy’r prosiect hwn, rwy’n bwriadu ysgogi trafodaeth hollbwysig ar sut y gall celf fod yn hanfodol i ddeall cyflwr iechyd’
- Adam McCusker, 2022
