Happy with my Hazel Hare, my 8x10 inch charcoal sketch on board which I completed today.

She will be off for exhibition at Richmond next month once she's been popped into her frame.

Definitely challenged myself with this large-for-me charcoal stag portrait but I'm very happy with him.

He will be framed over the coming days and I then look forward to seeing him adorning a wall very soon.

Fantastic opportunity to own a John Hanley print whilst also supporting a great charity: the Wildwood Trust.

Last year we lost a much-loved member of the association, John Hanley. John loved contributing to the charity auction so in memorial to him we have organised for a print of one of his beautiful graphite works to be included.

The auction runs through August, and you can bid for this lot or view the whole auction using the link in our bio!

Lot Number: 110
Title: The Kingfisher
Artist: John Hanley Art
Medium: Print from original graphite drawing
Artwork size: A5

Auction information:
Our annual charity art auctions have helped us raise thousands of pounds for our charity partners through the last 8 years. This year we have 113 donations from 67 of our amazing members! All proceeds will be donated to our 2026 charity partner, Wildwood Trust, along with a percentage of exhibition art sales, at the end of the year. It's the perfect way to treat yourself to something unique, AND support the animals in the artwork you win too!

Another day, another scribble sketch.
This one from a reference of my choosing.

It takes longer and is obviously not as accurate a way of drawing as gridding or tracing but my free hand sketching is more acceptable than I expected.

And this is fun!

This was an exercise in freehand drawing and tonal scribbling - easier said than done, I can’t remember the last time I just freely scribbled!

Following some exercises from another of my friend Sarah Stokes’ (excellent) courses.

A fantastic day learning lino reduction printing led by the very talented Alexandra Buckle and in the company of a lovely group of women.

I've never tried printing before so I was a complete novice today but I still managed to produce these acceptable allium and fern prints.

I think I may have caught the printing bug too as l'd love to have another go now that I understand the basic principles of this form of reduction printing.

Today I've been cleaning old paintings.

This is one of a pair of inherited, very ni****ne stained oil or acrylic paintings - I think acrylic but I don't know.

Painted originals by Tricia Adams in the 1980s and these have never been cleaned before.

To gently clean them I used a block of Fels-Naptha laundry soap - smells so lovely! - a soft toothbrush, warm water, a roll of kitchen roll and a clean sponge.

So satisfying to do! And my first timelapse video too.
