Friends of Newark and Sherwood Museum Service was established in 2011 to support the Newark and Sherwood District Council Service. Since our foundation the Millgate Museum has closed but we have seen the opening of the National Civil War Centre in May 2015. At this point the Friends was renamed to reflect their dedication to the new Civil War Centre. For the latest information, opening times and d

We had a great time deciding the fate of Charles 1 last night - I think the majority would have spared his life but then we are from a Royalist town!!

Seriously, we are raising money so the museum can buy a sword, called a ‘hanger’, that we have on display but needs purchasing if we are to keep it.
It’s currently in the case in the foyer of the museum.
So our next event is our FUN quiz this Tuesday, 4th February at 7.30.
Tables of 4, but don’t worry if you’re alone, we can make up tables as needed 😁
£2 for Friends, £3 otherwise - cash only please

We had a great time last night trying a little social dance after a very interesting & enlightening talk from Dr Anne Day about Masques, Music & Mayhem - did you know that Charles 1 was an accomplished dancer?

Thank you to everyone who came last night to our last talk of the year by the Merrie Noyse Minstrels.
The 3 “speakers” obviously enjoy their subject and make good music with their lovely instruments, getting everyone involved.
We have a full programme planned for next year , there’s something for everyone!
