Today is National Haiku Day! So why not have a go at writing at your own Haiku. Traditionally, a Haiku is written in three lines, with five syllables in the first line, seven syllables in the second line, and five syllables in the third line.

Here is one I created as an example!

Title - Norfolk Critters

Canary Chirping
Heads North towards the coast
Eating Cromer crab

Now why don't you have a go and post your Haiku's below! You can earn a CU credit

Just a fortnight to go until our online theatrical experience, Sherlock Holmes Investigates on 22 May at 7pm.

There is a popular image of Sherlock Holmes smoking a Calabash Pipe but in the books he smoked briar, cherrywood and clay pipes. We have several clay pipes in our collection.
There are two Holmes stories set in Norfolk - The Adventure of the Gloria Scott and The Adventure of the Dancing Men.

The Adventure of the Dancing Men was published in 1903 and concerns a strange code which "consists of a number of absurd little figures dancing across the paper upon which they are drawn." We have used the code to give you a clue to one of our paintings - can you work out which one? Let us know in the comments.

You can read The Adventure of the Dancing Men here for free: https://www.gutenberg.org/files/108/108-h/108-h.htm#chap03

You can book your ticket for the online play here https://norfolk-museums.arttickets.org.uk/ancient-house/2021-05-22-sherlock-holmes-investigates-online-play
Tickets are £5 per household or £2.50 per household for Norfolk Museums Service passholders.

For this week's challenge, we are drawing our inspiration from the cochlear or long handled spoon with a gilt engraving of a tiger on it. The tiger is linked to the Roman gold of agriculture, wine and fertility, Bacchus and the myth that he visited India.

There is an inscription on the handle reading DEIIFAVNINARI which means '(Property) of the god Faunus Narius'.

You can download and print this spoon outline or draw your own. You can copy one of these illustrations from the Thetford Treasure onto your spoon or draw your own. The horned head come from one of the rings and may represent Faunus.

If you would like your spoon included in the installation at Ancient House please send to Ancient House, White Hart Street, Thetford, IP24 1AA with your name and age.
