So Barbaric & Completely Unnecessary 🤬🤬🤬

These bittersweet moments were few and far between. Mainly, I witnessed horrific scenes like mother pigs getting beaten with metal rods to force them back into farrowing crates after getting their first chance to walk in months. I watched them roar in helpless despair as their piglets were violently yanked from their teats and castrated in front of their faces. I watched countless egg-laying hens die of thirst, starvation, or trampling after their broken legs or wings became trapped in their cages. And I watched mother cows spend days bellowing for their stolen calves as if this was the first time it had happened. For me, these memories illustrate the tragedy of the modern animal farm. You need only look to see that these intelligent animals are paying an unfathomable cost to satisfy our habit for cheap meat, eggs and dairy.

Did you know my mother? I'm told her name was Belle.
I don't know what she looked like, but have memories of her smell.

Did you ever hear my mother?...Did her cries pull at your heart?
I remember them quite clearly, when the men pulled us apart.

Did you drink from my mother? Did you ever taste her milk?
Did you feel her face against yours? Was her skin as soft as silk?

I've been told I had two brothers, and my sisters numbered four,
Then my mother went to slaughter, of no value anymore.

Were you there with my mother? Did you look into her eyes?
Did you see the fear within them? Did you listen to her cries?

And now MY end is coming, I am waiting with my friends,
We are huddled close together, In this place where all life ends.

Will you be there at our slaughter? For the flesh you want to eat.
Will you ever think about us? When you buy that piece of meat.

It's my turn now, I'm moving. I am going to my end.
I am urged with shouts and kicking, and with sticks that never bend.

I am thinking of my mother, and remembering her smell.
And I know we'll meet in heaven, and forget this life called Hell.

What A Sadistic World We Live In 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Every year several newly-born piglets are brought to us which have been found on main roads where there isn't a pig farm nearby. Sows often give birth on the way to the slaughterhouse and the piglets fall from the slats on the lorries onto the highway. One slaughterhouse worker told us how sows often arrive at the abattoir having given birth on their final journey and the piglets are left floundering around on the lorry until somebody 'dispatches them'. The farming industry will try to deny that this happens - Hillside Animal Sanctuary.

Animal Equality UK’s eight-month investigation into Cross Farm in Holsworthy, Devon, revealed a string of abuses, both legal and illegal. This was a Red Tractor certified farm supplying Tesco.
Across six visits in October 2023, January 2024 and June 2024, they found:

Piglets ‘thumped’ and killed against concrete walls;
Piglets having their tails cut off and their teeth ‘clipped’, without anaesthetic;
A piglet thrown by workers across the shed;
Dead piglets throughout the farm.
Paperwork reported that piglets had died from starvation, sickness, or after being crushed;
A bin full of dead piglets and rotting corpses on the barn floor;
Mother pigs in cages showing repetitive behaviours, a sign of psychological distress, such as bar-biting.
One pig, who had attempted to turn inside the cage, became caught beneath the metal bars, suffering deep, bloody wounds as a result;
Mother pigs suffering from red, raw leg sores and vulval prolapses;
And filthy conditions in the barns, with cobwebs and dust present throughout.
