All about Living Archive MK

What’s your Milton Keynes story? We’d like to hear it. At Living Archive MK we believe that everyone has a story to tell.

We are a creative cultural development charity that works with with partner organisations across the city, creating powerful expressions of Milton Keynes’ social history; digital stories, oral histories, curated exhibitions, living history events, documentary films, books and multi-disciplinary arts projects. We’ve been making documentary artworks and helping to build local communities since 1984. We can work with your group or organisation too, offering practical support to help you tell your story by providing training, audio-visual recording, project management and more. Please get in touch to discuss your needs in more detail.

Local people of all ages and backgrounds are actively involved in all stages of our work to preserve local memories and memorabilia. We work with a team of volunteers who digitise this material for us – photographs, newspaper cuttings, maps, letters, brochures and much more. You can view some of our vast collection of donated material on our website at www.livingarchive.org.uk

We are proud to co-ordinate MK’s annual Heritage Open Days on behalf of Milton Keynes Council. We are members of Heritage MK, a partnership of five museums and heritage organisations who have joined forces to raise awareness of the rich history of Milton Keynes within and beyond the new city. The partners are Bletchley Park, MK Museum, the Cowper and Newton Museum, MK City Discovery Centre and Living Archive MK.

Perhaps someone here can settle a dispute. In the 80's I distinctly remember a Chinese restaurant inside central Milton Keynes' shopping centre. However, someone has said I've simply imagined such a thing. Who's right?

WHAT DOES MILTON KEYNES MEAN TO YOU? This is a call out for submissions of one line sentences or a paragraph on the theme of your own personal meaning of Milton Keynes. The submissions will then be developed into longer theatrical pieces by Carabosse Theatre Company. We Are Milton Keynes, Too is a substantial community-focused project which has been made possible thanks to support from Arts Council England/National Lottery Grant. It will provide a platform for everyone to explain and explore what Milton Keynes means to them. Please send your submissions to [email protected] by midnight on 30th September 2020.
Does anyone know where I can buy a print of this lovely 1989 railway advert celebrating the Winter Gardens? It's was by Edward Pond for Network SouthEast. I would love to own a poster of this!
Does anyone have any information about "Milton Keynes Self Build Housing Association Ltd", active in the 70s? It appears that MK Development Corporation sold land in bulk to this association, who then helped self-builders (like those on my street) to create their homes. I'm interested to know which other streets and which houses on my street were part of this plan. Thanks
