Today, we bid a fond farewell to our beloved gallery assistant, Paul, as he embarks on a well-earned retirement after 10 wonderful years with the museum.

Paul has been the creative engineer behind so many of our unforgettable exhibitions over the years, including the golf course, coalmine, football stadium, and so much more. His contributions have brought joy and inspiration to countless visitors and made our museum the vibrant place it is today.

Paul will be deeply missed by our entire team and every visitor who had the pleasure of seeing his work. His departure leaves a big hole in the heart of our team, but we wish him all the best in this exciting new chapter of his life.

Thank you, Paul, for everything. ❤️

Are you a young q***r person in Mansfield with a passion for creativity? UK New Artists, Creative Citizens and Mansfield Museum are teaming up to launch an exciting new collective, and we want YOU to be a part of it!

We're looking for 14 to 19 year olds to help shape and deliver a series of events and exhibitions for Mansfield's LGBTQ+ community. From November 2024 to June 2025, you’ll meet monthly with artists Tom Stockley and Cat Anderson (pictured) to dive into LGBTQ+ stories, explore new ideas, and create something amazing for a brand-new exhibition at the museum.

Meet-ups will take place both in person at Mansfield Museum and online. We’ll also be taking a full-day field trip to Manchester Art Gallery. Plus, you’ll get to help throw an event to celebrate at the end of the programme!

Happy 30th birthday to The National Lottery! 🎈🎂

We want to say a massive thank you to all National Lottery players for supporting our work at Mansfield Palace Theatre and Mansfield Museum!

Thanks to your contributions, we've been able to deliver incredible projects through the Arts Council England’s 2023 to 2026 National Portfolio Investment Programme. From bringing world-class theatre and family shows to our stage, to supporting diverse exhibitions that celebrate local heritage.

Through the Better by Change project, funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, we’re empowering our community by promoting inclusivity and inspiring creativity through heritage workshops and accessible programs.

Step Back in Time with Empire Soldiers – A VR Experience Honoring Unsung Heroes

Mansfield Museum
Tuesday 12 Nov - 22 Nov
Museum opening hours are 10am to 3pm

Drop in to Mansfield Museum between November 12th and November 22nd during opening hours, and for just £2, experience both films back-to-back. Organised to mark Armistice Day 2024, this is a unique chance to commemorate the bravery of unsung heroes through immersive digital storytelling.

Empire Soldiers, created by MBD, is an immersive VR tribute to the overlooked courage and sacrifice of Caribbean and South Asian troops during World War I. Presented through two powerful 360° films, Empire Soldiers transports viewers to the battlefields of the past, offering a poignant reflection on the journey of race relations in the UK over the past century. MBD, renowned for their beautiful and emotive storytelling experiences, uses immersive technology to bring forgotten stories to life with artistic flair and technical expertise.

Each of the two films in Empire Soldiers runs for approximately 10-15 minutes. With two headsets available, visitors can engage with these impactful stories at their own pace. Please note that the experience is recommended for ages 12+ and the film "A Caribbean Story" contains racially sensitive language.

A Story of Resilience and Social Justice Empire Soldiers isn’t just about wartime bravery; it explores the enduring resilience of communities of colour and highlights the ongoing struggle for social justice. Through immersive storytelling, the project sheds light on the invaluable contributions of Caribbean and South Asian soldiers—stories that have too often been omitted from the historical record.

Drop In to Experience History Reimagined Join us at Mansfield Museum from November 12th to November 22nd to experience Empire Soldiers—a profound journey through history that offers a fresh perspective on the past and a reflection on today’s world.

No need to book, just pay on arrival and one of our gallery staff will help guide you through the process.
