Pleasley Pit Trust is a charity which works to preserve and protect the Pleasley coal mine, its artifacts, and stories of the mining community. The Trust helps in the conservation of the natural habitats and wildlife that now call this place home. The building, chimney and car parks are held by The Land Trust and both the building and chimney hold Scheduled Ancient Monument status with Historic En

gland. The inside of the engine house building and its working winding wheel together with many other mining treasures have been lovingly restored over many years and are now cared for and protected by Pleasley Pit Trust. The Heritage Centre, Visitor Centre, Café and Wildlife Group are managed mostly by a dedicated team of volunteers and the Trust is a not-for-profit organisation. Our visitors have access to the Country Park (managed by Derbyshire County Council's Countryside Services) all year round with access granted to our Visitor Centre and café everyday except Tuesday. There are many special events held throughout the year which showcase this site and all it has to offer. To find out more about the history of the mine and of what a mining life was like, there are guided tours every Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, including access to the Victorian Winding Houses. The winding wheel engines run for the public every 2nd Sunday of the month from March to October. For special tour bookings outside these times please contact [email protected] and for all other communications please email [email protected]

Angry post alert - sorry😮
On this wonderful Winters day we thought we would be posting about the first signs of Spring or the Big Garden Bird Watch but instead we are posting about why some people visiting the country park seem to think leaving their dog p**p bags on the path is ok - IT IS NOT OK.
There are bins and if you're not passing a bin - take it home.
Our volunteers from Pleasley Pit Nature Study Group want to spend their time caring for the wildlife, laying hedges, creating and managing habit, not cleaning up dog mess.
There is no excuse - please help us to take care of our green space.
Thank you to all of our many responsible dog owners - you're amazing 👏

It's the RSBP Big Garden Birdwatch this weekend. Our friends at the Land Trust tell us how to get involved 🐦🐦‍⬛

Don’t forget it’s the this weekend!

Did you know the Big Garden Birdwatch is the largest citizen science wildlife survey in the UK, with over 600,000 people taking part in 2024? The Birdwatch provides a valuable insight into how bird populations are faring, and the actions that can be taken to help.

In 2024 more long tailed and great t**s have been counted than previously, with both species taking advantage of bird food in gardens. Greenthrush numbers dropped by 69% from 1979 to 2024, which has been linked to a parasite-induced disease. You can help to stop this by cleaning your feeders and tables weekly.

We’d love to see you taking part in the Big Garden Birdwatch at a Land Trust site, why not take some photos of your bird spots and enter them into our 2025 photography competition. Click the link for further details -https://thelandtrust.org.uk/news/land-trust-celebrating-the-seasons-photography-competition/

You could also use some of our spotter guides to help ID the birds you see this weekend - https://thelandtrust.org.uk/publication_type/seasonal-activities/

You can find out more and how to get involved with the Big Garden Birdwatch on the RSPB website - https://www.rspb.org.uk/whats-happening/big-garden-birdwatch

Please be mindful of the weather forecast when venturing out this weekend. There are weather warnings in place across the UK, so please take extra care.
