New Order + Liam Gillick: So It Goes review – a suitably theatrical Manchester return

"The old Granada studios building has enormous significance in the story of Joy Division and New Order. In 1978, the former made their television debut here on Tony Wilson’s So It Goes programme after singer Ian Curtis berated the presenter in Manchester’s Rafters nightclub".

There are intensely emotional scenes as New Order revisit their back catalogue on a grand scale with synth orchestra, airing songs not heard for 30 years plus rapturously received tributes to the band’s fated predecessor, Joy Division

Who is this joker you got working for you?
in 2017 we officially launched our gender equality programme, supported by Arts Council England, at a major event held at Old Granada Studios!

Hosted by Miranda Sawyer, the event featured speeches from industry professionals and artists and performances off the back of the first ever Both Sides Now residency, led by BRIT award-winning, Mercury Prize nominated and critically acclaimed artist Beth Orton

The residency saw a group of artists come together at Chetham's School of Music to create new music (which you can hear on our Soundcloud) and visuals (which you can see in these lovely photos by Rachel Bywater Photography) that contemplated and responded to collaboration and experimentation in songwriting. Hear the music: http://ow.ly/FlZV30rjzEw
This has been five years in the making! It seems like just yesterday when we walked into Old Granada Studios and told the wonderful people at Allied London about our vision to use music and radio to change the lives of young people in the city. The support they have given us through provision of space and other associated resources has been fundamental to our growth and has genuinely helped so many young people to develop; we thank them from the bottom of our heart. This truly is a best practice model of how developers should work with the community to ensure city centre cultural experiences and neighbourhoods are accessible to everyone. Thank you to Manchester City Council and the Manchester Culture Awards 2019 Manchester Culture for seeing the value in this incredible partnership; long may it continue.
