During 2021, the Friends are financially supporting a project to conserve and present key items in the Museum’s collection of silk costumes and textiles. These include the inter-war Macclesfield Stripe collection, the 1800s women’s dress collection and the wedding dress collection (including some made of parachute silk).
The project will create a new hanging store and repair some garments, before photographing and researching the designs, manufacturers, clients and wearers of the garments. The end result will be new displays, both in-house and online, together with presentations to the Friends and other groups and individuals. Watch out for updates as the project progresses!
