pdil.art/grünewald - Matthias Grünewald, a master of German Renaissance painting, is renowned for his emotionally charged and vivid works. His most celebrated masterpiece, the Isenheim Altarpiece, exemplifies his powerful use of colour and dramatic composition, capturing intense spiritual themes and suffering.

Grünewald’s most notable masterpiece is the Isenheim Altarpiece, created between 1512 and 1516 for the Monastery of St. Anthony in Isenheim, Alsace. The altarpiece was designed to provide solace to patients suffering from ergotism, also known as St. Anthony’s Fire.

Grünewald’s depiction of the crucified Christ is striking for its visceral realism and profound pathos; the tortured body, contorted in agony, captures both the physical and spiritual suffering of Christ, making it one of the most powerful religious images of its time.

Our Matthias Grünewald collection download features 50 hi-res images, in jpeg format. These images include 26 detail pictures from the Isenheim altarpiece and a detailed overview of the three different configurations. The images are all 600dpi and range in size from 2952 pixels wide/tall to 8160 pixels wide/tall.

pdil.art/deserving - Why Book Illustration Deserves a Spot Beside Fine Art Paintings - Let’s have a proper look at something that’s always irked me: the idea that book illustration is somehow a lesser art form than fine art painting. I mean, really, who decided that? Why do we put paintings on pedestals and illustrations on the back shelf? Let’s unpack this, because frankly, I think it’s high time we gave illustrators their due.

Let’s have a proper look at something that’s always irked me: the idea that book illustration is somehow a lesser art form than fine art painting.

pdil.art/moser - Koloman Moser, an influential Austrian artist, revolutionised early twentieth-century design and painting. Renowned for his innovative use of geometric patterns and vibrant colours, Moser’s work embodies the spirit of the Vienna Secession, blending fine art with applied decorative arts.

Moser's designs in architecture, furniture, jewellery, graphics, and tapestries helped characterise the work of this era. He drew upon the clean lines and repetitive motifs of classical Greek and Roman art and architecture in reaction to the Baroque decadence of his turn-of-the-century Viennese surroundings.

Our Koloman Moser collection download features 55 hi-res images, in jpeg format. The images are all 600dpi and range in size from 3006 pixels wide/tall to 6510 pixels wide/tall.
