Melford Hall's story is one of survival against the odds and the people who have made it possible.

There is something for everyone at Melford - from Beatrix Potter sketches and family photographs to collections of naval paintings and Chinese porcelain - everything tells a story and everyne has left their mark. Chat to our friendly room guides, play a game of croquet on the lawn, or just relax with a cream tea in the Park Room or a book in the garden.

🏛️ “The Countess” | Sat 8 Aug | 2:30pm-3pm
Join our volunteers for the story of Countess Rivers and the events leading to the attack on Melford Hall during the Civil War brought to life through the eyes of the Countess, a local man and others.

Normal admission also applies, free for National Trust members.

With the prolonged hot and dry weather we are experiencing, the risk of fire across the country is high. Please help to look after Melford Hall by:
❌Not lighting any fires, BBQs or smoking whilst anywhere on the estate.
✅Disposing of all litter responsibly
✅Parking in designated areas only

If you see a fire in the open, please call 999 immediately and get to a safe location.

Happy Birthday Beatrix Potter!

Beatrix Potter, fondly known as Cousin Beattie by the Hyde Parker family, was born 160 years ago today. She was the cousin of Ethel Leech who married Reverend Sir William Hyde Parker, 10th Baronet, and often stayed at Melford Hall accompanied by her small menagerie of animals.

Her visits were looked forward to by the family with Beatrix often trying out her new stories on the Hyde Parker children. Many of her drawings, inspired by her stays at Melford, can be seen around the hall.

Beatrix Potter's books have never gone out of print since her first book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, was published in 1902, they have be translated into 35 different languages and continue to sell millions of copies world-wide. She remains one of our best loved children's authors.

The wisteria in the garden is having a second flower. Whilst not unusual, the amount we are seeing this year could be due to the stress caused by the prolonged hot and very dry weather.
