Today, 21st April would have been late Queen Elizabeth II 98th birthday 🎂.

We celebrate by showing ‘Ma’amalade’ by British artist Jeremy Houghton, who was known to be ‘the Queen’s favourite young artist’. Over the last two decades, Jeremy has been honoured to paint various members of the Royal family both at work and at play through his residencies at Highgrove and Windsor Castle, which have afforded him close observation of the family and their horses.

As Artist in Residence for the Queen at Windsor Castle in 2014, and in paintings from his most recent Collection – The Platinum Jubilee Collection, he wanted to shine a light on more personal moments as well as the ceremonial engagements we are so accustomed to seeing. Moments that allowed the Queen to enjoy riding for pleasure, taking a moment of peace from the pressures of public life.

We had a lovely meeting with Jeremy recently and looking forward to visiting his studio situated in the gorgeous Chipping Campden in the Cotswolds.

BILL GINGLES
The beautiful ‘Fairy Pool’
Acrylic on canvas

More concerned with the language of colour, line, form, texture and symbolism, Gingles’ paintings are made up of expressively textured layers of colour, within which he arranges an array of abstract painterly motifs and tessellated spontaneous gestural marks. The resulting paintings express the “dynamic equilibrium” of the immaterial realm, appearing as if caught in mid-evolution – in the process of becoming.

We are thrilled to be presenting a stunning collection of Bill Gingles work at the forthcoming Hampstead - 8-12th May 2024! Having winged its way to London from his studio in Louisiana. For more details contact the gallery. Link in biog 💛.

Francisco Benítez’ practice explores historic, lost or forgotten styles of painting. A process he describes as “atemporal archaeology”.
He employs these ancient techniques to fuse the psychology of his subject with the history of art and representation.

As well as many notable solo exhibitions in the USA and Europe, he runs workshops at the Harvard Art Museums. His work is also held in the New Mexico State Legislature Public Art collection, National Hispanic Culture Centre, Albuquerque and the Conseil Général de l’Aveyron, Rodez, France. As well as many private collections worldwide, including the Versace collection.

‘Joy’
RENATTA
Acrylic on canvas
86 x 90 cm
In black float frame

We are excited to be presenting Argentinian artist Renatta’s work at the forthcoming Battersea Spring Fair. 💕

From a young age, Renatta began exhibiting her work in galleries in Argentina, USA, Singapore, China and the UK, with her work now in the permanent collections of the Argentine embassies in Singapore, London and Los Angeles as well as public and private collections worldwide.

Her subject matter is nature: the stars, earth, trees and water. She works in an almost alchemizing way, letting the paint drip through her fingers, knowing instinctively which colours and mediums to use to achieve her objective on the canvas, and in so doing creates both visually arresting and contemplative pieces.

See a fantastic collection of Renatta’s work on stand J2. Affordable Art Fair, Battersea. 6-10th March 2024

Absolutely stunning work Claire Milner 💚 Posted • ‘THE ARCHAEOCETI: A FIFTY MILLION YEAR OLD SMILE’
Titled after the book-length poem Whale Nation by Heathcote Williams – a poem that honours the beauty, intelligence and majesty of the largest mammal on Earth.
Scientists predict that we could lose over 90% of our coral reefs by 2050 if we don’t act urgently to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. Although they occupy less than 0.1% of the ocean floor, coral reefs are home to a quarter of all marine life - that’s more species than rainforests. Animals use reefs for shelter, food and laying eggs. Reefs are vital for people too – they protect coastlines by reducing the impact of storms and waves, which can cause destruction and land erosion. They also provide food and livelihoods to many millions of people, worth around £300 billion each year.

Peter Burega
‘Southern Crossing no. 16’
Oil on canvas
111 x 171.4 cm

We are excited to be working with the fantastic Canadian artist Peter Burega. A collection of stunning paintings arrived in London from Canada just recently. 💫

His work is described in various articles as possessing an embodiment of dualities: between organic and linear, man-made and nature, structure and amorphous, order and chaos; a clash between expressive abstracted energy and structured uniformity. Moreover, many have said that his work is ‘Turneresque’, with its suggestion of dramatic expansive skies and poignant filtrating light. The presence of this dichotomy is what defines Burega’s authorship and gives his compositions both their poetry and their strength.

Peter Burega has had numerous solo exhibitions and participation in group shows for over 20 years and on a continual basis in well-known galleries. His work is collected by many household names and highly regarded corporations.

FRANCISCO BENITEZ
‘Lilly and Silver Cup’
Oil on aluminum panel
22.5 x 31 cm

Three exquisite still life paintings by the incredible Francisco Benítez, on their way to from his studio in Santa Fe, NM.

His family’s southern European heritage fostered Benítez’s interest in the Baroque Masters, particularly the tenebrism of Caravaggio, a technique which in his work has parallels with the way narrative is woven around the subject like a veil or shroud.

He excavates historic, lost or forgotten styles of painting, a process he describes as “atemporal archaeology”. The idea of unveiling or revealing the subject through the use of light and narrative is approached via Greco-Roman art. Benítez employs these ancient techniques to fuse the psychology of his subject with the history of art and representation.
