Thames Sailing Barge Parade

Thames Sailing Barge Parade Raising profile and awareness of the Thames Sailing Barges, their history and their future.

The Thames Sailing Barge Parade was created to raise the profile and public awareness of the Thames Sailing Barges and the role that they played in the development of Victorian Britain. On the 17th September 2016 nine Barges formed a procession and paraded through Tower Bridge displaying to the assembled crowds these unique vessels. Then on the 18th September the barges gathered in West India Dock

for a mass open day joined by a pop up museum with displays from
The East Coast Sail Trust (SB Thalatta),
The Shipowners Club,
The Society for Sailing Barge Research,
Chaffcutter Books,
The Docklands Museum,
TS Rigging,

Unfortunately the Thames Sailing Barge Parade will not run in September 2019 and is not expected to appear again until September 2021.

The main reason is simply lack of funding. We haven’t been able to secure enough funding to cover the whole event for 2019, aside from this, our Parade Master, Mr Gary Diddams, would not have been able to take part as his barge Gladys is being refurbished and may not be ready until late summer 2020.

We’ll update you on ideas we have for fundraising in the run up to 2021.

Hello, I’m Danny Collier,
I operate Colliers Boatyard, a modern covered dry-docking facility, located on the river Thames at Isleworth.
We offer boatyard services and facilities for boat maintenance and repairs to a variety of vessels, including houseboats, Dutch barges, narrow boats, and passenger vessels.
We are open for business and are happy to discuss requirements.
Visit our page for a full breakdown of our services (link below).
We’d be grateful if you’d share our message with your boat residence.

Kind regards,
Danny Collier

Hi. I'm a descendent of the Bannister family, my Nan's maiden name was Bannister. I'm very interested in the history of the barges as I gather the family worked on them throughout the 1800s later becoming barge masters.
Really great weekend. The parade was spectacular and the pop up museum very interesting. Giz Marriner
