Very proud to have facilitated the collaboration that brought Hong Kong bamboo artist Inkgo Lam’s work onto the cover of Wallpaper* China May Issue, worn by actress Ni Ni ().

This collaboration was initiated and coordinated by me and my team at ARTouch Consulting as part of our communications work for Crafts on Peel , the Hong Kong charitable foundation dedicated to reviving, reinterpreting and perpetuating Chinese heritage crafts.

In an era where traditional craftsmanship often risks becoming static heritage, Crafts on Peel has been consistently exploring how Chinese craft can continue to evolve through contemporary culture, design and cross-disciplinary collaborations.

The featured bamboo piece was created by Inkgo Lam, who trained under Hong Kong bamboo master Lui Ming and has been developing a contemporary artistic language through traditional bamboo craftsmanship. Her practice transforms bamboo beyond its functional associations, repositioning it within contemporary art, fashion and sculpture.

Earlier this month during London Craft Week , Crafts on Peel presented Creative Cross-Pollination: The Future of Crafts at the Royal Society of Sculptors, featuring newly commissioned works, including Inkgo Lam’s The Big Ben.

Very grateful to Crafts on Peel for their long-term vision and commitment to sustaining craft not simply as preservation, but as a living cultural language capable of continuing to enter contemporary fashion, art and global visual culture.

What can design do beyond creating “new” objects?

Recently interviewed Xinyu Weng, founder and chief designer of YUUE Design Studio , about Upcycling Shared Bicycles — a socially engaged design project currently on display at the Why We Make galleries at V&A East, for V&A’s official Chinese social media channels including WeChat and RedNote.

The project transforms abandoned Mobike shared bicycles into furniture pieces, with each object built directly from original bicycle components. Behind these sculptural forms lies a much larger story about urbanisation, overproduction, waste, and the environmental aftermath of China’s shared-bike boom.

During our conversation, Xinyu reflected on the moment he first encountered the so-called “bicycle graveyards” appearing across Chinese cities between 2018 and 2019, endless piles of discarded shared bikes accumulating on the outskirts of cities after the collapse of dozens of bike-sharing companies.

Rather than simply recycling the materials, Upcycling Shared Bicycles attempts to preserve the original identity and visual language of the bicycle parts themselves, extending their life through minimal intervention and new functional forms.

Xinyu also spoke candidly about the challenges behind the project, not only in designing the objects, but in communicating the larger social questions behind them.

“As designers, are we only here to help companies pursue economic growth? Or can design also become a language to initiate actions, raise questions, and encourage meaningful public discussions? This is something I’ve continuously been exploring.”

Presented by Crafts on Peel, the Hong Kong charitable foundation dedicated to reviving, reinterpreting and perpetuating Chinese heritage crafts, the exhibition brings together specially commissioned works born from months-long collaborations between master artisans and a new generation of contemporary creatives across Greater China.

Spanning gold gilding, filigree, bamboo craft, galvanised ironwork and Guangzhou embroidery, each work reflects an ongoing dialogue between tradition and contemporary practice — where ancestral craftsmanship is not simply preserved, but continuously reimagined through new materials, ideas and perspectives.

Glad to share my views on Chinamaxxing with Jing Daily.

It’s not entirely new, echoes of Chinoiserie are there, but this time it’s bottom-up, driven by Gen Z and social media. More performance than practice, more algorithm than reality.

At the same time, it reflects something real, especially among young people in the US, a mix of curiosity, escapism, and subtle cultural expression.

What’s more interesting is where it becomes tangible. From Samuel Gui Yang to Susan Fang , we’re already seeing Chinese aesthetics translate into real commercial demand.

Personally, I don’t think the “lifestyle” side of chinamaxxing will last. The real shift may come from something else: as travel to China becomes easier again, and people experience it firsthand, AI, logistics, everyday tech, and the high-efficiency, that’s where perception truly changes.

We’re delighted to see the lucky winner of “1 Picasso for 100 euros” has been announced 🎉

A remarkable initiative that not only offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to win “Tête de Femme” by Pablo Picasso—valued at €1 million—but also raised meaningful support for Fondation Recherche Alzheimer.

We’re proud to have made a small contribution in supporting the project’s visibility across China, through platforms including Artnet China and Tatler China, helping it reach a wider audience.

This project stands as a powerful model at the intersection of art and philanthropy—demonstrating how cultural value can create real-world impact.

📱We captured a short greeting from Gus Casely-Hayford, Director of V&A East, for the V&A’s official RedNote account, connecting V&A East with Chinese audiences through a dedicated social-first format.

Located within East London’s growing creative campus, alongside UCL East, London College of Fashion and Queen Mary University of London, the area is home to a significant number of Chinese students, many of whom are deeply engaged in creative disciplines.

This has naturally translated into a strong and curious Chinese audience for V&A East.

Following the release, the video gained strong traction on RedNote. Over the weekend, we also saw a noticeable increase in Chinese visitors on-site, and many sharing their visits and experiences across the platform.

Gus Casely-Hayford, “It’s a space dedicated to creatives and creativity across the whole world… If you come to East London, come to V&A East. I think you’d love it.”

A meaningful moment where digital storytelling meets real-world engagement.

🎤As a new wave of cultural institutions emerges across Shenzhen, many driven by technology companies, the relationship between capital and culture is entering a new phase.

✍️Writer for Fast Company China, Eva Liang .eva.liang , spoke with Lang Xiao , Founder of ARTouch Consulting, on this shift.

In Lang‘s perspective, companies are no longer just sponsors of culture—they are becoming its producers. As businesses scale in the capital markets, brand value increasingly relies on intangible systems of meaning rather than products alone. Art, in this context, operates as a “priceless” symbolic layer, one that enables companies to communicate lifestyle and cultural identity, while also, at times, softening public moral scrutiny around corporate behavior.

At a regional level, this shift reflects a broader transformation. Backed by the Greater Bay Area’s economic strength, the convergence of capital, institutions, and cultural infrastructure is giving rise to new audiences and cultural identities, positioning the region to evolve from an industrial powerhouse into a cultural hub.
