Rotosound Music Strings

To commemorate Jimi Hendrix’s birthday today we’ve donated a set of #RotosoundStrings supplied to #JimiHendrix in 1967 to the Handel & Hendrix in London museum. They will be on display alongside other possessions and period-correct items in the flat where Jimi lived from 1968-69.

We recently discovered this pack of #Supertone strings in our archives alongside a few photos of Jimi taken with Rotosound’s Alan Marcuson.

Our founder, James How, recalled that “Jimi Hendrix was not pleased with the sounds he would get when he bit his strings, so I developed a gauge that he thought ‘tasted’ right.”

Nabihah Iqbal tries out the new sound system in the Hendrix Flat and chooses some of her favourite albums from Jimi's record collection.

We've been busy behind the scenes recently at Handel & Hendrix in London, recreating the exact home audio setup that Jimi Hendrix had when he lived at 23 Brook Street in London.

This collaboration with Bang & Olufsen, Lowther Loudspeakers & LEAK has brought back the exact listening experience Jimi Hendrix had in his Mayfair flat in 1969.

We asked musician, DJ and huge Hendrix fan Nabihah Iqbal to come and test it out, and tell us about her favourite LPs in Hendrix's record collection.

Film by Max Presky Cinematographer, made with the support of Art Fund.

Handel: where to start with his music

"By now Handel had moved into the new house on Brook Street that would be his home for the rest of his life; it is open today as a museum, its name – Handel & Hendrix in London – reflecting the fact that two centuries later another celebrated musician would move in next door."
Great article from The Guardian.

On the trail of the world's greatest guitarist

"Hendrix lived in London for much of this period of success, renting a flat at 23 Brook Street in Mayfair. Here, remarkably, he intersected with a rather different musical icon, albeit at a distance of more than two centuries – the next-door apartment, at number 25, was the home of George Frideric Handel from 1723 to 1759."

50 years ago today, on the 18th of September 1970, Jimi Hendrix died. These photos were taken just the day before by Monika Danneman.

Hendrix once said "When I die, just keep playing the records", so that's what we'll be doing today.
Let us know your favourite Hendrix track in the comments.

The composer's bedroom, in the Handel House. We carried out the analysis of the decorative schemes within this house and the neighbouring one, where Jimi Hendrix lived in 1969. Having established that the Handel House had been painted Lead Colour originally, we managed to persuade the Trustees to reintroduce it and we also remixed and supplied the colour - Reposted from @alidad_ltd Handel’s Bedroom in his house in Brook street, Mayfair, London. About us

In a single street in London, separated by a wall, are the homes of two of history’s most significant musical artists: George Frideric Handel & Jimi Hendrix.

25 Brook Street is the house that belonged to Handel and the place where he composed some of the world’s most enduring Baroque music such as Zadok the Priest, Music for the Royal Fireworks and Messiah. Visit the rooms where he ate, slept, rehearsed and entertained in a modest mid-terraced house for the last 36 years of his life and understand the man behind these incredible works.

The top floor of 23 Brook Street is the flat where Jimi Hendrix lived with his girlfriend, record player and guitar from 1968-69. Step back in time to 60s London and visit the room where he slept, partied, worked and relaxed. Come and see Hendrix’s only recognized home in the world.

See them together under one roof at Handel & Hendrix in London. Find out more - https://handelhendrix.org/

Me and Jimi at the Camden Round House, Feb 1967. (only 40 people in the Audience. I'm the good looking one aged 16 with the white arrow pointing at me. I was lucky enough to see Jimi twice that year, the other venue was the Marque in Wardour St in late summer of 67 and it was packed to the roof🎸
We need to go here Christine Dobbo Mabbutt Jo Taylor for next trip. They are next door. X
