#OnThisDay in 1717, Handel's Water Music premiered on a barge in the river Thames as entertainment for a royal cruise for King George I. The King was so delighted by Handel's highly spirited composition that he asked to hear it over and over - for a total of 4 performances, lasting about an hour apiece. 🎼

Today, we're reminiscing over the amazing temporary Hendrix exhibition that took place here as part of Mayfair Art Weekend on 25th-26th June 😍

It featured the incredible artworks of artist Iona Rowland Art whose mural can still be seen at the museum's entrance on Brook Street 🎨

When asked about what particularly inspired Iona in creating her art for this exhibition, she replied: "The works are made up of lots and lots of layers of spray paint, silkscreen prints and improvised marks. They draw upon Jimi's love of doodling. There are a lot of surrealist marks throughout the works since Jimi loved drawing in his spare time and letting his hand wander across the page, so you'll see in all the works these loose drawn lines and that is an ode to Jimi's love of drawing." ✏

Are you surprised that Jimi was an artist on top of being a musician? Let us know down in the comments 🗯

Delighted to support our friends from Gothic Opera who are opening their new production of Bartok's Bluebeard's Castle this week at Porchester Hall, London.

A chilling tale of a man's encounter with the darker parts of his mind, and his journey to uncover them.

Featuring digital animations created by the students at Ravensbourne University London, the production is directed by Julia Mintzer (director of Gothic Opera's Off-West End Award-nominated production of Der Vampyr in 2019), who created the show's concept along with choreographer and dancer, Carmine de Amicis. The talented Halcyon Quartet will be placed under the musical direction of Thomas Payne. The show will feature Alexandra Long in the role of Judith and Simon Wilding (ROH) as Bluebeard.

#OnThisDay in 1968, Jimi Hendrix moved into 23 Brook Street with his then girlfriend, Kathy Etchingham. It was actually Kathy that found the flat listed in one of the London evening newspapers as Jimi was in New York at the time. 🏙
However, upon his arrival, Jimi was instrumental in decorating the place - purchasing curtains, cushions and knickknacks - and he later described the flat as "my first real home of my own". 🥰
So, what do you think of Jimi's style? Do you like it? If you could have any one of his items, what would it be and why? 🙂

Jimi hendrix - wild thing, Live at Monterey Pop festival, 1967.

#OnThisDay in 1967, Hendrix played the Monterey Pop Festival, which was his first big performance in the US with the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Having arrived there as an unknown act, only being given a slot thanks to the encouragement of Paul McCartney, Jimi came away with the reputation of being one of the most exciting guitar players of his time. Not only did he stun the crowd with his unconventional sound, but he also caused quite the stir thanks to setting his guitar on fire right at the end of his set 🔥

You Can Visit the Former Homes of Elvis Presley, Judy Garland, and More

"Historic house museums serve as a way to time travel to the past and see firsthand how our predecessors lived—and, in the case of the former homes of famous musicians, chances are, some of your favorite songs may have been written under that very roof."

Great to be featured in this round up of musicians' former homes around the globe by House Beautiful alongside the likes of Louis Armstrong House Museum, Mozarthaus Vienna, Bob Marley Museum & Beethoven-Haus Bonn.

Which house is your favorite?

About us

In a single street in London, separated by a wall, are the homes of two of history’s most significant musical artists: George Frideric Handel & Jimi Hendrix.

25 Brook Street is the house that belonged to Handel and the place where he composed some of the world’s most enduring Baroque music such as Zadok the Priest, Music for the Royal Fireworks and Messiah. Visit the rooms where he ate, slept, rehearsed and entertained in a modest mid-terraced house for the last 36 years of his life and understand the man behind these incredible works.

The top floor of 23 Brook Street is the flat where Jimi Hendrix lived with his girlfriend, record player and guitar from 1968-69. Step back in time to 60s London and visit the room where he slept, partied, worked and relaxed. Come and see Hendrix’s only recognized home in the world.

See them together under one roof at Handel & Hendrix in London. Find out more - https://handelhendrix.org/

Handel, with care
Absolutely loved our visit to this great museum on Friday. Everyone we met was so welcoming and informative. A “ must see” if you are visiting London.
Here is my video of a famous Handel piece varied by the Austrian composer Ferdinand Rebay. Not by Jimi Hendrix but at least on a guitar. Sometimes I wonder what would have happend if both would have listened to each other...
Wishing everyone at Handel & Hendrix in London and all Paul McCartney fans Happy Easter wishes. Have a great holiday and stay safe... Let's raise a glass or two and sing along to some Macca songs to lift the hearts, the spirits and the horizons. https://www.facebook.com/1972wingstourbus/posts/469384191166470
Wishing everyone at Handel and Hendrix Museum a very Merry Christmas and we would like to share just some of our latest exciting heritage news. Our 1953 Bristol KSW 5G ECW open top double decker WNO 481 more famously known as 1972 Wings Tour Bus will be restored in 2021 to Paul McCartney & Wings layout and livery. Delighted to receive this accolade recently, "Many of us have a big collection of Beatles memorabilia... but only one fan in the whole world has a double-decker bus with a Beatles connection" and to report that what has been called "The world's biggest Beatles collectible" Looking forward to bringing WNO 481 to Handel and Hendrix in the not too distant future once she is restored and back to her beautiful best. She is scheduled to make her first public appearance in 25 years at NEC Classic Motor Show where we will be celebrating the greatest music in the world ever; Lennon-McCartney, Beatles and Wings songs. Interested in seeing this legend of rock and road? Let us know in the comments below. We are very proud that the bus features on the front cover of the latest edition of the FBHVC Magazine and in a 6 page article inside. https://www.facebook.com/1972wingstourbus/posts/399013508203539
The London Handel Festival's 'Messiah - Reimagined' is available to view FREE on YouTube. Laurence Cummings directs four stunning soloists, the specialist baroque London Handel Orchestra and 400 singers from 16 countries across 5 continents - all from St George's, Hanover Square in the heart of London's Mayfair- Handel's own parish church. Intrigued? Watch it here (we've had some 190k viewers already on Facebook from all around the world). I think Mr Handel would be very proud! 🙂
Me and Jimi at the Camden Round House, Feb 1967. (only 40 people in the Audience. I'm the good looking one aged 16 with the white arrow pointing at me. I was lucky enough to see Jimi twice that year, the other venue was the Marque in Wardour St in late summer of 67 and it was packed to the roof🎸
We need to go here Christine Dobbo Mabbutt Jo Taylor for next trip. They are next door. X
Been there.well worth the price.very laid back .nice people. Got to look in the same mirror Jimi looked in.
My Hendrix House. 😀
🤩
Many thanks to the team for talking to me about the museum's work right now
