ICN gallery

ICN gallery ICN gallery is contemporary art gallery based in London that actively seeks to showcase and share with the UK public upcoming & young contemporary artists from Japan and other Asian countries. Neither seeking to imitate the West nor call for a return to pure tradition, the ICN gallery artists' works present messages on today's dynamically changing world of Asia. Producing works of pure creativity, they expand beyond established art boundaries, incorporating the ideas of art, culture and philosophy with originality and skill. Besides organising exhibitions, ICN also host events, seminars and workshops offering the public a chance to have a more personal engagement with creative work. By basing ourselves in Japan and UK, specifically London, not only are we able to discover new talent, but also able to lend support to more local artists; extending our ever-growing network for creative distribution.

About “American Dream”
A Maiko (apprentice geisha) from Kyoto that is deep in thought is depicted with a paper umbrella. The girl is
covered in Japanese traditional beauty from head to toe: Japanese coiffure, a Hana kanzashi (flower
featured hair pin), a colorful Furisode (long-sleeved kimono), and a long draping sash. In order to master
traditional performing arts, she is hustling every day, taking dance lessons and learning how to play Shamisen
(Japanese musical instrument). Her ambition is to be a professional dancer, and to perform in New York
City. She is chasing the "American dream" to stand on the big stage one day.

A collaboration piece by AIKO and The Adachi Institute of Woodcut Prints, which carries over traditional and
highly technical Japanese woodcut techniques to present-day.

About Shizuoka City Tokaido Hiroshige Museum of Art

Shizuoka City Tokaido Hiroshige Museum of Art is opened in 1994 and is the first art museum in Japan to focus on the works of Edo Ukiyo-e Artist, Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858). There are approximately 1400 landscape woodblock prints and other works within the Hiroshige collection, including Hiroshige’s masterpieces Fifty-Three Stations of the Tōkaidō (Tōkaidō Hoeidō Edition) and One Hundred Famous Views of Edo.

About Hiroshige Utagawa

Utagawa Hiroshige(1797-1858) Ukiyo-e artist His work Fifty Three Station of the Tōkaidō (Tōkaidō Hoeidō Edition) caused a great sensation, after that he continued to create Ukiyo-e prints about the Tōkaidō and the landscape of Edo and became famous as landscape artist. While he was working on what is considered his late-life masterpiece, One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, Hiroshige fell ill and passed away at the age of 62. Hiroshige's bold composition and lyrical style is loved by all and his works continue to influence artists all over the world.
