Chiswick House portico cleaning project.

Chiswick House and Gardens is a wonderful place to visit, and at this time of year the gardens are particularly beautiful. We were lucky enough to recently spend some time there, cleaning the exterior portico of the house. If you are in London over Easter we’d heartily recommend a visit. All info is on their website chiswickhouseandgardens.org.uk.
Here are some images from our project there.

The National Maritime Museum in London has just opened four new galleries - Pacific Encounters, Polar Worlds, Tudor & Stuart Seafarers and Sea Things – bringing together a fantastic array of extraordinary treasures from around the world.

These wonderful new galleries are free to visit, so jump on a bus (or boat) and get down to Greenwich.

We were lucky enough to be involved in the project - here are a couple of photos. You can find out more on the Royal Museums Greenwich website. https://www.rmg.co.uk/whats-on/four-new-galleries

The beautiful Yellow Drawing Room at Leeds Castle in Kent will shortly be re-opening to the public after restoration works, and earlier this year, as part of those works, we were really pleased to assist the castle's conservation team with the cleaning of the room's historic plasterwork frieze.

Here are few photos from the project.

As you can see from the final pictures taken a few days ago, the room is looking stunning. Well worth a visit - as if an excuse is ever needed to go to such a magical place!

Deep clean of The Long Gallery

We were ever so pleased last month to return to Syon House in West London to carry out a top down deep clean of The Long Gallery. The Long Gallery is a magnificent room designed by Robert Adams. The room is over 41m long! - ideal for promenading - and Adams' design was intended to make a stroll from one end to the other as enjoyable as possible. As you'll see from our project pictures, the room's magnificence persists to this day.

Working in conservation means a great deal of the objects and interiors we clean are old. But by no means all. Contemporary works of art require the same care as older pieces if they are to look their best and be preserved.

Here are some pictures of our team cleaning a contemporary chandelier sculpture at the House of St Barnabas members club in Soho.

For more info about the project, have a look at our blog http://www.conservation-housekeeping.co.uk/blog

A few weeks ago we were very happy to get at chance to spend some time at the wonderfully historic church of St Bride's, Fleet Street - giving the interiors a deep clean.
Here a a few photos from the project.

Famous for its long association with journalists and newspapers, St Bride's is thought to be one of the most ancient churches in London - possibly dating back to the 7th century. The building which currently stands was designed in 1672 by Sir Christopher Wren. The church was badly damaged by fire bombs during the Blitz, but was re-built after the war with donations from newspaper proprietors and journalists. Steeped in history, this wonderful church is well worth a visit. http://www.stbrides.com

Last week we had the pleasure of cleaning Leighton House Museum in Holland Park, prior to the installation of a new exhibition there. Here are a few pics.
If you have never had the opportunity to visit this wonderful museum, then now is a great time to go. Designed and owned by Lord Leighton, (the celebrated Pre-Raphaelite painter) it is the only purpose-built studio-house open to the public in the UK. The interiors of the house are stunning - a true feast for the eyes - and at this rather gloomy time of year, the fabulous rich colours feel like a treat for the soul.
Opening on 12th February, the new exhibition - Pre-Raphaelites on Paper - features over 100 exceptional drawings and sketches from the Lanigan Collection. Click here for more details. https://www.rbkc.gov.uk/subsites/museums/leightonhousemuseum/exhibitions2015-2016.aspx

You may be familiar with the Poynter and Morris rooms at the V&A. These two beautiful rooms are usually full of people enjoying lunch and tea from the museum's lovely cafe. We were very happy to be asked to clean the chandeliers in these rooms a few weeks ago (Needless to say, the cleaning took place after visitors had gone home!) Here are a few pictures.

Central London's largest Conference and Events Venue Central Hall Westminster London UK

And here's a bit more information about Central Hall Westminster. It is well worth a visit!
Built in 1917, The Methodist Central Hall (also known as Central Hall Westminster) is a stunning Baroque building with a fascinating history. https://www.c-h-w.com
As well as a Methodist church, the building is used as a multi-purpose venue - hosting meetings, concerts, political rallies, and the like. Indeed amongst many other notable events, the very first meeting of United Nations General Assembly in 1946 was held there.
Visit their website for upcoming events. The café, which is open to the public, is also a great place to escape the Westminster crowds for lunch or tea.

The central London space will exhibit a number of historical objects from the church - including royal funeral effigies, silverware and stonework - and give visitors impressive views down over its buildings.
