Join us for an online lecture with Dr Anne-Grit Becker as part of the Disruptors exhibition at Ben Uri Gallery and Museum curated by Dr Ana-Maria Milčić

✨ How can words become images - and images become words? This talk explores David Medalla’s groundbreaking cross-media experiments of the 1960s and 1970s, revealing how his practice connects the intimate and the planetary, with human migration emerging as part of a wider story of movement and change. ✨

About the speaker
Anne-Grit Becker is a Research Associate at the University of Siegen and holds a PhD in Art History from Freie Universität Berlin. Her research focuses on artists' writings, cross-media practices and migration. She has published in Archives of American Art Journal, Art in Translation and Nka, and her essay Letters of Transition was shortlisted for the 2026 Max Nänny Prize.

Dr Nicola Simpson is a Research Fellow at Norwich University of the Arts. She is editor of Notes from the Cosmic Typewriter: The Life and Work of Dom Sylvester Houédard (Occasional Papers, 2012) and co-editor of Dom Sylvester Houédard (Richard Saltoun, Riding House, 2017).

This event forms part of an ongoing lecture and conversation series led by Dr Ana-Maria Milčić accompanying the Disruptors exhibition which features works from the William Allen Collection.
