NEXT TUESDAY: Amelia Abraham in conversation with Zach Toppin | Book at the link in bio

Join us at the gallery on Tuesday evening (28 July, 7pm) for Amelia Abraham in conversation with reflecting on his practice and the first solo exhibition ‘Still Beginning’.

Amelia Abraham (Amelia Abraham) is a writer and editor from London. She writes about art, culture, and q***r history and present, for AnOther, The Guardian, Art Review, BUTT mag, Buffalo, and many other titles. Her books include S*x, Clubs, Dissent: Visualising Q***r Nightlife (2026), published with Mack books.

Working primarily in oil painting Zach Toppin () investigates transness, q***rness, masculinity, and identity formation. He largely creates allegorical portrait-narratives through still life painting. Interior settings act as a stage for objects to perform a narrative. The viewer is given access to intimate moments of a private trans life. Moments from memories in deep love or heartbreak, moments of desire, loneliness, longing or strength. He offers visual images as a script to be deciphered, the objects are players and the scene is the set.

Please RSVP at the link in bio, or by emailing [email protected]. Please include any accessibility needs. Limited capacity!

Introducing whose solo show ‘Still Beginning’ opens on Thursday, 2nd July, 6-9pm!

Working primarily in oil painting Zach Toppin (b. 1987) investigates transness, q***rness, masculinity, and identity formation.

The objects presented are symbolic vehicles, they contain other meanings, historical references, nods to important ancestors, messages of hope or foreboding, and through that, time travels outside of the picture plane. Fetishised items and personal relics are used as tools to explore gender fantasy, ritual, protection, and desire. These works operate as coded communications: intimate archives of trans life, dis-ease, euphoria, love, and becoming.

‘This whole project is pushing out of me from an absolute and urgent need to think about relationships, define them or point to them. It’s about making something palpable that I’ve been collecting for years—a physical confirmation of the existence of this network of relationships.’

For nine years Karina has been photographing an intimate circle, “in which I’m built in”—a scene, that in the meantime blew up into a Central European punk royalty waging a daily battle with the obvious. Here in the back, however, the stage doesn’t show, we stay far from the madding crowd. Firmly in the tradition of Magdalenes and Veronicas, Golisova, a former textiles student, brings her veils and ointments and prints into them, visualises her invisible female labour: caring for the battered warriors tilting at semantic windmills. Instead of the scream of modern man, she shows kindness, consideration, attention, healing. Instead of confrontation: empathy. Embraces, touches, cats, matching leopard outfits, and swathed buildings. Now dispersed between countries and tens and millions of streams, the scene still stands out for its solidarity and cohesion.
