St Seraphim's Trust

St Seraphim's Trust Former railway station housing Pilgrim Chapel, Railway Heritage and Icon Museum, and Quiet Garden for reflection. The chapel and museum are too small to open safely under pandemic restrictions.

Visits to the garden by prior appointment. Saint Seraphim's Trust is a registered charity that seeks to keep Saint Seraphim's Orthodox Chapel open for all pilgrims and visitors to Walsingham, as a place of worship and contemplation. We are proud to also host a fully accredited Railway Heritage and Icon Museum. Both the chapel and museum are small but full of interest. The trust also aims to continue the tradition of painting icons in the traditional style in Walsingham. The Brotherhood of Saint Seraphim kept the tradition of iconography in Walsingham until the death of Leon Liddament in 2010. The garden has been thoughtfully landscaped and planted as a fully accessible community garden. It is registered as a Quiet Garden and is also home to a delightful selection of traditional toys for the enjoyment of younger visitors. Due to pandemic restrictions, the chapel and museum are currently closed. Visitors to the Garden are asked to contact us in advance to ensure numbers are limited.

Introducing Maxine, who has recently moved into the goose quarters at St Seraphim’s. Maxine is a Maned Goose (aka Australian Wood Duck), just like little Max, who visitors to the garden may remember. Welcome Maxine and many thanks to the Trust’s good neighbour John who has worked on making the goose pen more secure so she is safe in her new home.

Thank you to the players of #NationalLottery. Because of you the Heritage Lottery Emergency Fund could award an emergency grant to St Seraphim’s. Here is some of the work that we do, one of our icon painting workshops, held pre-Covid.
Because of Covid our income from visitors to our lovely little chapel, museum and garden has dropped dramatically. The Heritage Lottery fund will help us to keep going until we can reopen. #thankstoyou 🙏

One of the joys of the Quiet Garden is the welcome it offers to everyone. For younger visitors there is a choice of toys for the imagination, as well as the many corners of the garden to explore 😊

A beautiful time of year in the St Seraphim’s Quiet Garden. The end of June is normally time for the annual Garden Party, a lovely event made magical by the huge amount of preparation and generous time given by supporters. Sadly no party this year, but Zoe has captured the beauty of the garden to share. Lots of fabulous pictures to follow, but starting with Sylvia and Wanda, the St Seraphim’s residents.

Become a Friend of St Seraphim’s | St. Seraphim's Trust

If you are a Friend of St Seraphim's, you should have received a copy of our latest Newsletter. Quite a full one, as a lot has been going on, including restoration work to the building to make a beautiful new space for our planned icon display.

The Friends of St Seraphim’s was formed to help protect the important heritage of St Seraphim’s. Originally Walsingham Station on the Wells and Fakenham Railway, this historic building now houses an Orthodox chapel and Icon and Railway Heritage Museum. These are managed by a small charity, St Seraphim’s Trust. You can find out more about the Friends of St Seraphim’s on our website, and become part of something special for just £10 a year!

St Seraphim's Trust is working on a book about the history of the building and its evolution from Walsingham Station and home to the station master and his family, to Orthodox chapel and icon studio, and its latest incarnation as Chapel, Railway and Icon Museum and Quiet Garden. We would like to hear from anyone who has memories from any of those stages, but especially from when it was a working station. As the station closed in 1964 such memories are increasingly rare and precious.

Fantastic news that St Seraphim's is the winner of this year’s North Norfolk Environment Award. The Trust was nominated by Cllr Tom Fitzpatrick and won 'in recognition of your environmentally sustainable project to develop the long-derelict side of the railway embankment and small other land to create a tranquil garden for residents and visitors for quiet and contemplation.' So much work has gone into the garden over the last few years so it's great they are getting a little recognition 😀🥇🎉 The garden is open (free) every Wednesday and well worth a visit.
A recent photo of the Quiet Garden at St Seraphim's, taken at last weekend's garden party. It's amazing how much it has changed in the last few years. 🌷🌸🌳💚
