Hockney's Eye Haarlem, the oldest museum in the Netherlands is still there until 29/1/23. Established in 1778, Teylers Museum was founded as a centre for contemporary art and science - the perfect setting for Hockney’s experiments with different perspectives: multiple, reverse and scientifically aided tricks to create a sense of travelling through a space in a way that shifts the importance to peripheral elements our eyes might meet when experiencing a space or view.

The HALLYU! THE KOREAN WAVE exhibition at the V&A is the surprise I wasn’t ready for when I casually met up with a friend at the V&A on a lazy morning. Informative, fun & colourful, surprising, and incredibly beautiful at times. The wonderful and unexpected mix of influences makes for a mesmerisingly captivating cultural experience.

American Impressionists | ArtHistorical London

In this lecture on American Impressionists, we will examine the rich variety and complexity of American painting in the advent of modernism, as French avant-garde philosophies and styles melded with American individualism.

American Impressionism was inspired by the tonal & stylistic effects of the French, but was uniquely linked with the changing face of America, often depicting the super wealthy, and painted by much more cosmopolitan artists than their European counterparts. More info below

Why were some women in the 17th century dressing up as men? Some were probably doing it to have access to a world exclusive to men, others were doing it so that they could marry their same s*x lovers. Join us for this tour of examples in the Mauritshuis The Hague!

Porcelain Mania | ArtHistorical London

In this talk we will discuss the European mania for porcelain and some of the characters who devoted vast amounts of money and time to its production. From Florence to Saxony to Versailles, fortunes were spent in creating exquisite examples of "white gold".

Marco Polo bought the 1st tiny example of porcelain to Europe in the 13th century. This tiny exquisite object, so unlike European ceramics precipitated the pursuit of European-made porcelain which would pre-occupy powerful men, potters & scientists for centuries. more info below

This ‘Mondriaan’ house in Utrecht, The Netherlands, was designed by designer and architect Gerrit Rietveld. Like Mondriaan part of The Stijle movement, this house - like any Mondriaan painting - needs to be seen in the flesh. It is unexpected, sculptural, clever, far less rigid and more playful than one might expect from something this geometrical, abstract and cubist. Created in 1924 (before Corbusier started doing his thing) this tiny home expands in ways quite unimaginable! With every little detail fitting the aesthetic I admire the widowed Truus Schröder who asked Rietveld to design the house, and who managed to live there with 3 children!
Join Mariska as she highlights 19th century European artistic and political influences, important 19th century Russian historical events and movements, nationalist feelings and the complexities and mysteries of the Russian territories of one of Russia's best loved artists, who was born in Ukraine and died in Finland.
The Mondriaan House Museum in Amersfoort, The Netherlands. The house in which he was born in the charming city of Amersfoort giving an overview of his artistic developments and his evolution into abstraction, incl the reconstruction of his studios in Paris.
