Wellington Parish History Society

Wellington Charities The Wellington Charities continue to support parishioners with housing in the alms houses, educational activities for young people and general support and relief when times are hard. Some ancient parts of the charitable activities, investments and funds don’t exist anymore. Gill Bullock takes a look at bread charities, apprentices charities and some tumbledown buildings.

Bromyard and District Local History Society

From Curses to Claimants: a history of the Tichborne family Will Motley tells the story of the Tichbornes of Hamphshire, his maternal ancestors and one of England’s oldest families. It includes an account of a 12th century curse that came true in the 18th century, catholic martyrs, and a plot to kill Queen Elizabeth I.

VOLUNTEERS - WE NEED YOU!

Help uncover Hereford’s brooks and waterways

Herefordshire Lore and Herefordshire Wildlife Trust are looking for volunteers to join our new River City project, exploring the history of the Eign, Widemarsh, Yazor, Canny and other city waterways.
Help us delve into old maps, photographs, newspapers and local memories to uncover lost streams, mills and bridges, floods, pollution, wildlife and stories of everyday life beside the water.
🔎 No research experience needed – just curiosity!
Your discoveries could help a lasting record of Hereford’s watery heritage.

Interested? Come and help us put Hereford’s hidden waterways back on the map.

Library & Reading Room Open Day
Saturday 19 September, 10am - 2 pm

Join the Library & Archive team of Hereford Cathedral as they mark this year’s Heritage Open Days with a special event.

This is an opportunity to visit the cathedral’s modern lending and reference library, the Reading Room.
The event will also coincide with the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the opening of the New Library Building.

The event is free and booking is not required.
