A really unusual National Trust place in Surrey - 20 miles of river navigation, running from Godalmin Open on Wed/Sun
(27)
River Wey Navigations is a 20 mile mix of river and canal, created in 1650 to serve the agricultural and industrial are of west Surrey and provide an easy means of transporting goods to the London markets. It remained a commercially viable transport system until the 1960s when it was donated to the Trust. There is a visitor centre at Dapdune Wharf, open Thursday to Monday and a full events program
me. Shalford Mill a wonderful hidden gem, in the quiet backwater of Shalford sitting across the Tillingbourne stream. The building has remained almost unaltered since ceasing operations in 1914. Although the water wheel no longer functions, you can trace the journey of grain around the mill until it was bagged up and carted off to the bakers. There are regular guided tours of this well preserved early 18th century water mill as well as many fun events for children.

What a day! So many thanks - to all our visitors, to all the boaters, to everyone who danced and played music, to the stallholders, to our sponsors, to all our volunteers and staff - just thanks. Best ever festival!
And...phew...as you were - full steam ahead for the festival tomorrow🥰
Dapdune Wharf's Book Shed will be brimming with super second hand books at the River Festival on Saturday. In addition, we'll have a special collection of rare, collectable and first edition books on sale in a pop-up bookshop at the Gunpowder Store. For bookworms there really is something for everyone. Our wonderful book volunteers will be in both shops daytime and evening to help you find a little bedtime reading to take home after the illuminated pageant!
Final post on Papercourt Lock!
The finger crossing worked - the maintenance team have completed the repairs to the lock and it is fully open and operational.
If you are planning on coming to the Wey River Festival this weekend there are currently no restrictions, so have a safe journey and see you at the Dapdune Wharf.
(The repairs to the lock in 1907 probably took considerably longer...)
Following on from yesterday's update for the emergency repairs at Papercourt Lock, the team have been working hard and are hopeful that the work will be completed and the Navigation opened by Friday. These jobs are never straightforward and so although we are feeling optimistic, there is still a chance that the job will encounter delays. We will therefore send another update tomorrow as the work progresses.
🤞🤞🤞
Following the incident on Sunday 10th Sept where the cill on the lower gates at Papercourt Lock was broken, our maintenance team have been working hard to assess the damage. We are hoping that by the end of today, the lower planks will be in and ashed up and the lock chamber will have been emptied so that we can gauge the expected length of repair. With the Wey River Festival coming up this weekend we are doing everything that we can to get this job finished as quickly as possible and have the Navigation opened up again. We will send out further updates as soon as we have more information.
Over this summer Woking Photographic Society held their annual exhibition at Dapdune Wharf and over 2,500 of you voted for the public's favourite photo. The results are now in and the top three are ...

The swans hadn't nested at Dapdune this year so it was a pleasant surprise when this family of six suddenly turned up. The nest may have been out on the floodplain somewhere.
I hope some of you may have been able to enjoy #dawnchorusday in person, but for those who may have had their Sunday lie in, here is a clip from this morning.
