Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 21st April 1926 – 8th September 2022

It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

We give thanks for the long life of Her Majesty; a life of service, commitment and unwavering devotion to the nation.

Shere Parish Council Chairman Roy Davey:

'We, the residents and council of Shere Parish, would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the Royal Family on the death of our Queen, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. A wonderful lady, who devoted herself to the service of our country and to the Commonwealth, over more than 70 years. She has been someone who has always shown a strong sense of duty and dedication combined with a very obvious genuine interest in everyone whom she met.

She has been a national treasure and will be hugely missed by all sections of the community.'

Sadly cancelled for the second year running

It is with a heavy heart that we have made the difficult decision to cancel 'Carols in the Square' for a second year. There were a number of factors leading to this, including: key members of the organising team isolating, the shifting national situation reflected in the Government's announcement Wednesday evening, and lack of control compared to a service in church. We realise there are arguments in favour of continuing, but we felt the balance is now against and we needed to make a decision now so others involved get fair warning. We know many will be disappointed and are sorry for this. We pray next year's event can be better than ever.

Looks familiar doesn’t it? This beautiful and idyllic pub was the perfect setting for the festively famous film, ‘The Holiday’.
The pub was formerly a farmhouse called ‘The Cripps’ in the 15th century and boasts some unique and distinctive features such as a secret cellar and an inglenook fireplace which really brings to life its own character.
Sitting close to River Tillingbourne, it make the perfect stop for a pint of ale or one of our delicious Kraken hot chocolates to warm up by the fire with.
If you fancy sitting where the likes of Cameron Diaz and Jude Law have, why not pop in and create your own romantic story this season...

Brilliant work 🙂

A huge thank you to the Surrey Highways team for widening the pavement outside Shere Delights this week! 👏

Fully financed by Shere Parish Council for the community, it has been done to improve the safety of pedestrians walking near the bridge, putting an end to the hazard of having to use the road when passing others on the pavement.

This postcards message reads 'this is a very pretty village between Dorking and Guildford - This message reminded me just how lucky we are to live here and made me think of all the happy times spent in the village.

Posted on July 1903, processed at 5.45pm from Shere Post Office and arrived in Guildford at 7.15pm the same evening.

If you look carefully at the postcard, you can see a horse and cart coming from Gomshall Lane and a boy/man leaning up against the wall of Vine Cottage.

Last night was a bit chilly! Spring frost can damage the new buds so we lit 800 candles to keep the vines warm ❄️

A plea for votes! The deadline for voting is only open till MIDDAY TOMORROW (6/9) and we are swinging between 3rd and 4th place! http://bit.ly/2fvdl4E (anyone over the age of 18 can vote!)

Abinger Common Nursery School, has the opportunity to secure £10,000 in grant funding to develop their outdoor learning and forest school provision next year. All they have to do is generate enough votes to rank in the top 3 out of 13 other nationwide projects in their category (Lifelong Learning). Please can you help give our rankings a boost in the crucial final hour and vote for us?!
Had a lovely visit today, it was just a shame that this delightful man parked in the disabled bay while he did his shopping then was really abusive when he came out.
