Two new four-footed recruits have joined Cleethorpes police's crackdown on crime in Freeman Street.
​As part of the force's Operation Garibaldi, mounted police will now make regular patrols around the area. There are eight horses in the Humberside police force—all named after villages in the county.
​"It's high-visibility policing; people are sometimes put off by a police uniform, but the horses always seem to break the ice," said PC Pete Smith, who rides 10-year-old Croxton.
​He and PC Doug Chemilt, on Seaton, belong to the force's operational support division.
​"We go wherever we are needed, to help officers on the beat as requested," went on PC Smith. "We are just trying to add a little touch of something the public can relate to—something a bit out of the ordinary.
​"Wherever we go, we always get a good response," he added.
