Speculating but pause for thought.

The best view in Cleethorpes?
You’d have to be here over 4000 years ago at the Neolithic burial mound on Beacon Hill, now in the Cemetery.
Then, the only way in to Cleethorpes was along a narrow ridge extending from Weelsby woods to Highcliff and slightly further than today into the Humber. The ridge sloping down to Taylors Avenue in the North and Clee Road to the south. The rest.. is under water!
Imagine, in the morning sun looking down to Thrunscoe fields, a lake and rich hunting ground to the sun reflecting from an endless shimmering sea beyond. And to your right, the Wolds looking much higher with its many trees.
The best view in Cleethorpes!

Tex was the country's best...

GRIMSBY Borough Police had just two police dogs in 1966-but one of them was judged to be the best in Britain.

Tex, a four-year-old Alsatian, won the national police dogs trials at Malvern with his handler.

Pc Len Rayner.

Pc Rayner and Tex had been together for three years, during which time they had established quite a reputation for themselves, not only with the town's criminal eiement but with the child-

ren as well. In addition to being a very efficient and very intelligent police dog, he was something of a big softie as well.

Len Rayner's children, Diane and Michael, treated him like a household pet while most of the children in Scartho, where Pc Rayner lived, knew Tex well.

Coincidentally, Pc Rayner's next door neighbour on Waltham Road was Pc David Towse, the borough police force's other dog handler, and his Alsatian, Wanda.
