We've seen quite a few young robins about recently - have a look for them when you are out and about!
❤️😁👀

You might notice more robins around during the autumn and winter. Juvenile robins are starting to get their red breasts so they become more recognisable as robins, and other robins are arriving here from northern Europe. Some of these will stay and spend the winter in Britain while others are passing through on their way to southern Europe or North Africa. #tapintonature #whattolookfor

A tale for All Hallows' eve. Back in Napoleonic times a gibbit stood on the beach at Fort Blockhouse in which the bodies of miscreants, criminals and traitors would hang as a warning to other evil-doers. This is the story of Davis Tyree who was caught as a traitor sending information to the French about our Navy's goings on. He was hung, drawn and quartered on Southsea Common but a mob scattered the guards and fought to get pieces of the body. A man named Adams from Gosport obtained the head which he preserved in spirits and exhibited for some years. #ReDiscovery

Lee farmhouse and land, 177 acres bought for £10,000 by John Robinson in 1883 with the plan to build roads and develop the area into a resort to rival Bournemouth and Brighton.
The land was flat and undeveloped with only Lee Lane (later Manor Way) winding its way to the coastline needing to be incorporated into the new plans.
John’s son Edmund became the estate manager and lived in Upper Lee farmhouse, this became the hub of all the auction sales for the plots of land.
It was converted into a 6-bedroom hotel to accommodate site staff and anyone visiting the area with the idea of purchasing plots and became the Victoria Hotel, later the Bun Penny.

Today i visited for the first time to get some photocopying done. I was welcomed by one of two members of staff at the door and asked what i needed. i explained, and was advised what i needed to do. I was also told a member of staff inside would help if i needed it. Inside i was amazed how it had changed when i last visited which was years ago. It was welcoming and the lady who helped me with my photocopying was really helpful. I was expecting to pay at least £1 per copy but was amazed it was just 10p! When i left the same lovely lady at the door asked did i get it done ok. Would highly recommend Discovery Centre.

We have just been to collect our first ready reads. Excellent service 😊 the children have been looking forward to this since I told them we could get new library books out. Friendly staff on arrival who told us where to go and stand to collect books safely. Will definitely use again. Thank you for working hard to allow us to use our libraries again 🤩
