This week’s #ThrowbackThursday may surprise a few of you.

These are images of our ship during the initial restoration period after she was purchased and towed from Spain.

As you can see, a lot of work went into restoring Glenlee!

Today's #ThrowbackThursday is of our ship when she was named the Galatea.

In 1922, the Spanish Navy purchased the ship and subsequently, converted her into a training vessel and renamed her Galatea.

We hope everyone is safe and well.

Unfortunately, we still don't have an exact date for re-opening the Tall Ship Glenlee, but we are working on it!

For now, here is a #ThrowbackThursday of our ship when she was under Italian ownership and named the Clarastella (circa 1920).

15/07/2020

We are working hard behind-the-scenes to reopen the Tall Ship to the public, but, we are not quite there yet!

Our current plan is to reopen safely by early August.

We look forward to welcoming you on-board soon and will be releasing more details in the coming days and weeks!

Time for a reflective moment . . .
Well, we are part of the other NHS - that is to say National Historic Ships, but as one NHS to another we would just like to say thank you to all the key staff working to keep the virus at bay at this time.
Also to bemoan this wonderful weather. Social Distancing and Lockdown would be so much easier in driving rain and chilly conditions, which (incidentally) would also be so much kinder to Glenlee's wooden decks. The sprinkler systems are therefore on to stop the wood shrinking and help stop the leaks. No doubt the moment we are released, the weather will break.
But, for the moment, keep smiling and Glenlee looks forward to welcoming you back on board soon.

Glenlee is totally quiet. She is so missing her toddlers, kippers, school pupils, diners, wedding couples and all the other visitors and supporters in these strange times. Very much looking forward to having you all back, but until then "Stay Safe"

It is with a heavy heart that the Team at the Tall Ship have decided to close to the General Public. With the direction to reduce social interaction, this is the only way to protect the public and our volunteers and staff.
The Tall Ship is now closed until (at least) 19 April. We will continue to honour any bookings that any hirer wishes to proceed with, and will rearrange any that they need to reschedule.
We will continue to review options and the maintenance so that Glenlee is ready to welcome her public and supporters as soon as possible.
We are staying in close contact with all our volunteers and staff to ensure they have any support they require. Our volunteers are still welcome at the ship and the workshop by arrangement. (Something we think may become more important as social isolation builds.)
Thank you for your support. The office will still be manned 0900 to 1230 daily, so please get in touch if you need to. 0141-357-3699 [email protected]

Come on down to The Tall Ship and see one of our latest exhibitions, "Wingrove: A World of Miniatures". Gerald Wingrove was one of the best known model-makers in the world. This exhibition showcases his remarkable talent. We focus on how he created an incredible model of the Falls of Clyde, one of the other 5 Clydebuilt ships still afloat, comparing this to how our beloved ship was built. #thetallship #glasgow #exhibition #thingstodoinglasgow #modelmaking

Can someone please tell me where the photos of the Glenlee's last voyage can been seen? They were wrritten up in a story in the Evening Tims of 25th May after they had been researched by Elizabeth Allen of the Clyde Maritime Trust, and I would like to give the story a mention in the Glasgow & West of Scotland Family History Society page.
