... 13th Jan 518, Kentigern, aka Mungo, died.

He was a missionary in the Brittonic Kingdom of Strathclyde, and the founder and patron saint of the city of Glasgow.

In Scotland he is usually known by the pet name Mungo. While in England & Wales he is known by his birth name Kentigern. (Welsh: Cyndeyrn Garthwys; Latin: Kentigernus)

Two churches in Cumbria, St Mungo's, Bromfield and St. Kentigern's, Aspatria, both have Hogback Stones, like those we have at Govan Old.

... 7th Jan 1875, Rev. John MacLeod, took charge as Minister of Govan.

1884-1888 he oversaw the building of the new "Govan Old Parish Church" that we still have today.

In 1892 he was one of the co-founders of The Scottish Church Society and this High Church or "Scoto-Catholic" theology explains why Govan Old has stained glass windows and a high altar, both of which are not usually found in The Church of Scotland.

A Viking-Age hogback, but in a 90s 3D style. We think this originally would have been a bear clasping onto the roofing (tegulation), as at Brompton, but whichever animal it was, it's now lost to us after being recarved by a subsequent generation.
