Discover who will marry little Miss Mouse with Puppeteer Colleen Magennis, help a little lost bear find his way home with Clydebuilt Puppets (image credit), or create your very own puppet in our great CRAFTY - MAKE IT workshop with SMPC! There is plenty to discover and enjoy in our jam-packed program. Don't miss Magic Den and his Magic Circus this Sunday 16 Oct or Gary Dunn and Where's the Ghost on Friday 21 Oct (extra show now programmed at 11am due to demand).

View our exhibits and check out our wonderful new gift shop of puppets, masks, retro games, wooden toys, books, and much more! Or simply take the weight off your feet on one of our Cafe Open Days Sat 15 and Thurs 20 Oct 22, while the children colour-in and cut-out puppets and/or masks ( £2.50 each or 3 for £6.00 Kits, all materials provided).

We are excited to be a part of Glasgow Doors Open Days 2022. There is wizardry at work behind these closed doors – the magical world of masks and puppets!

Have lots of fun once more... the Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre is opening especially for Doors Open Days Fri 16 - Sun 18 Sept 10AM - 4PM each day.

Come along to see the changes to date, enjoy one of our free puppet shows from Talking Heads Puppets on Sat 17 and Sun 18 Sept at 11AM, 1PM and 3PM, with guided tours after each show! Enjoy a barista coffee and home baking in our newly refurbished cafe. Check out our wonderful new gift shop full of retro games, wooden toys, puppets, masks and books in creation since the pandemic and carried out alongside our ongoing building renovation.

Our cafe will have children’s colour-in/cut-out puppet and mask activities available to buy (felt tips etc. provided on the day) alongside light refreshments, home-baking and delicious Alfie & Co. coffee. It’s an ideal place to start browsing the multicultural exhibits in addition to our reference and audio-visual library and workshop spaces.

The pandemic has brought about an exciting and continuing period of change, renovation and refurbishment for the Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre with the valued support of Museums and Galleries Scotland, Creative Scotland, Visit Scotland, Glasgow City Council Business Strategic Framework and Local Area Fund.

After Doors Open Days, while work is still ongoing, please phone for opening times. We are very much looking forward to sharing our new museum and gallery space. We will be looking to re-open in 2022.

Hello from SMPC....Looking for something to do this weekend and coming week, Don't miss Art and Energy from Plymouth - COP26 Moths to a Flame Community Installation at the Kibble Palace, Botanic Gardens, Glasgow 6-12 Nov 12-4pm. Check out their website and learn how to make your own recycled moths from milk bottles and much more. https://www.mothstoaflame.art/events

Photo's taken at a special evening preview by Sarah, with the moths lit up under UV torches, making the 13,000+ moths, a wonderful interactive display. It's also fascinating to learn that even the plants light up under UV. The lovely Chloe, Naomi and Jenny from Art and Energy will be on hand to talk to you about their project if visiting the Kibble.

To update everyone, the pandemic has brought about a continuing period of change and renovation for SMPC, which is still ongoing and taking a little longer than planned. We will now be looking to re-open in 2022. It has been a pleasure to support Art and Energy, with workshop space after they were given the final go ahead to install their community project at the Kibble just over two weeks ago for COP26.

Some may be wondering what we are doing while being temporarily closed during the pandemic? The answer is refurbishing, renovating and preparing the way for opening our new museum gallery and shop in the Autumn. Watch this space!

This weekend's special shows on at Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre as part of the Glasgow International Comedy are:

Pinocchio Sat 14 Mar @ 2pm - Following the grain (pardon the pun) of this classic story, an old clock-maker named Geppetto carves a little boy out of a block of wood, just as if it where a real boy and so begins the adventures of Pinocchio!

That's the way to Do it! Sun 15 Mar @ 2pm - Cheer to the juggling, join in with the plate spinning and laugh with Professor Clive at the best Punch and Judy show in town. See Mr Punch, Judy, the Baby, the Crocodile and of course the Sausages, accompanied by a variety of marionettes, and the sound of a traditional mechanical organ. That's the Way to Do it! "You were brilliant" Zoe Court, Warwick District Council.

Don't miss this weekends delightful showing at 2pm on Sat 1 Feb of Three Wishes followed by the story of Little Bear - The Magic Green Man grants the woodcutter and his wife three wishes, but they make some very funny choices...indeed! Then it’s bedtime but Little Bear can’t sleep because he’s frightened of the dark... don’t be Little Bear.

When all was quiet, a childless couple went outside and made a little girl from snow. How they wished that she would come alive and be a daughter to them. In the morning, there is a knock on the door, and who should walk through the door but the little snow child... A poignant Russian folk tale. Pavla will give a demonstration at the end of the show to show you how to make your very own spoon puppet.

Why not join us on Sun 3 Nov at 12 noon for Dinosaur Detectives by Clydebuilt Puppet Theatre https://www.maskandpuppet.co.uk/whats-on you will still have time to head off for a nice Sunday lunch after.....but first follow the clues to the Dinosaur Bones in a journey of discovery, fun and conflict surrounding the first fossil finds of the Victorian era. Puppets, projection and shadow theatre create this fascinating world of dinosaurs. A fossil table will be available at the end of the show to study fossils – including Dinosaur Vertebrae and Dinosaur Poo… Loved by all! 5+ yrs.
