To all the previous followers of the 13th Guards page welcome to Eastern Allied Forces Living History where we talk about Soviet, Latvian, Polish and Czechoslovakian history.

The soviet group we portray is the 43rd Latvian Guards Rifle Division a unique unit within the RKKA.

The 43rd Guards rifle division was formed from the 201st “Latvian” rifle division who was in turn formed from remnants of the Territorial Corps that was formed from the prewar Latvian Army.

We mostly portray the 43rd’s Sapper unit the 47th Guards Sapper Battalion. However we have plans to expand this.

Truly a date that should be remembered by all.

Yesterday on the 1st of August one of the greatest moments in human history and it’s will for freedom began.

Lasting from the 1st of August to the 2nd of October, 63 days of struggle, under constant bombing by JU-87 Stuka bombers, bombardment from 600mm Karl-Gerät siege mortars, mortars and the infamous rockets of the Sturmtiger heavy assault guns.

The members of the “conspiracy” would engage in combat street by street, house by house and room by room. Fighting against the most notorious units for war crimes the Germans had to offer.

There is rarely a time in history where things are black and white. It is usually a shade of grey, however the Warsaw uprising is one of the few examples of a struggle against pure evil.

79 years ago they fought, and we aim to teach the world of their struggle for freedom and against tyranny.

Za Ojczyznę!

Today we are doing a small follow up about a unit of the Soviet Naval infantry! As some of our initial supporters know we started off as a naval infantry living history group. To touch a little on our roots we are looking at some of my favourite pictures of the entire war.

We see members of the 70th Ladoga Flotilla Naval Infantry Brigade. A unit formed of cadets and volunteers of the Pacific Fleet would see the brigade playing a defensive role for most of the war until June 1944. Where they would conduct the largest fresh water amphibious assault. Eventually being transferred to the northern fleet and fighting in the artic, then Prague.

There are fantastic pictures that show some really cool features. We see that the troops here have been training with rubber flotation aids that was frequently used by Red Army engineers. We also see all of them wearing normal army uniforms no sailors caps and OBR 43 tunics mixing. Also just basic army infantry insignia

Even some of these bold chaps wearing gr***des in a popular style being strung onto their belts rather than using pouches for gr***des. These pictures were taken either in 1943 or 1944 before the Tuloxin landing Operation in June of 1944.

Don’t forget that we will be at Duncarron Medieval Village this weekend as part of the Bayonets and Barbed wire open days so pop along and find our Soviet Detachment and our Project Tempest Detachment.

23/06/2023

Don’t forget to come along and see us at Defend Fife on the 2nd of July! We will be representing Eastern Allied Forces Living History at the event so don’t forget to come along! Come along and see us portraying a MG Nest of the Zemsta Company, Pięść battalion, Radosław Group during the 1944 Warsaw Uprising.

Now for a new Announcement! As some of you know Eastern Allied Forces Living History is split into detachments. This is one of them please welcome Project Tempest to the Family. Project Tempest will focus exclusively on the Polish Resistance organisations, members and exploits during the Second World War.

Welcome to Project Tempest we are a Living History Detachment which is apart of Eastern Allied Forces Living History.

We focus on the exploits, history and actions of the Polish Underground Movements during WW2.

What is Project Tempest? Project Tempest is named after the real life Operation Tempest, a plan to liberate Poland from within.

This is project is not only to teach the public but also for ourselves to learn and deepen our knowledge of this fascinating subject.

We are based in the Northern UK (Scotland & Northumbria).

Here we have our Peoples Polish Army Kapral planting a replica PMD-7 Anti Personnel Mine. These mines are extremely simple in their construction constituting a wooden box, metal fuze and the charge. It’s simple construction made such weapons cheap, easy to make and deviating to the the sapper planting them and those unfortunate enough to be victims. Land mines still to this day a indiscriminate horrific weapon of war that affect war zones long after the last rounds have been fired.

Now this post was meant to be a continuation post with more pics from Duncarron (Do not worry they will come.) but we have received a few messages about the TR periscope seen in our latest picture series.

The main and critique was that it was the wrong colour! Well pull up a sandbag as it’s story time!

This TR periscope is actually really unique among the ones we see usually. Firstly it still has its wartime appropriate hard case rather than the late and post war fabric case. The hard cases were usually swapped out for the lighter cases during refurbishment so not many have the original cases.

Second the colour can be explained by the little white stamp seen on the scope itself. SA means that this scope was property of the Finnish Army and with the date mark of the periscope being 1939 it means that this scope was captured by Finnish forces from the Red Army, possibly in the Winter War of that very year or the continuation war. The Finns refurbished it and painted it in their own colour and used it for them selves.

Now certain items such as these were recaptured by the RKKA and employed again with the RKKA. However this would likely be seen more in units still engaged in fighting in the Finnish area. But some were reissued to other units all along the eastern front.

So is it kinda farb that it’s the wrong colour kinda. Is it something I’m going to change hell no. This periscope is a true gem of an item and the pride of my personal collect! The optics are still great and it’s telling its own story.

It’s the little things that build up our impressions and displays and the is where living historians shine. Every item can tell a story which is our main job as living historians.

Now here is a post we did a while ago about about an operation that is never mentioned but deserves to be looked at.

As promised here is some more pics of some of the stuff we got up to in our short time at Duncarron Medieval Village open days. Here we have our Peoples Polish Army Sapper NCO going the path less traveled to reconnoiter hidden German defences deep in the Forrest during Operation Bagration. He is armed with a soviet TR periscope a PPSH-41 and a German M39 egg gr***de.

Public Anouncement:

We regret to announce that we will not be attending Blyth Battery in our planned capacity.

This is due to the event organisers placing a ban on Soviet impressions a week before the event. There will still be our two man Polish Peasant battalion team in attendance.

We are deeply sorry for anyone disappointed by this news.

We will however be bringing our attendance to the Duncarron open days forward to the 27th of this month.

A big announcement for our humble bundle of a group. We have been given the fantastic opportunity to participate in the monthly Bayonets and Barbed wire open days! These will be every last weekend of the month for nearly every month of the year! You can bet we will be there every time possible (exception being if events are already booked for that same weekend). The location is a truly special place for us as it was here where we had our first event as a group Duncarron Medieval Village during Forces in the field.

So come down and see us and some other fantastic groups!

As we are about to launch into full opening with events and activities to be available all through school holidays, weekends and weekdays from
May onwards we’d like to share some images of some visitors we had trying things out this weekend past. Come and meet men and women of “Bayonets and Barbedwire” weekends the last weekend of every month. More details to follow.

Now before our upcoming busy season this year, one of our group visited the Museo Histórico Militar de Canarias and had a wonderful time! A real gem of the Canary Islands. Some real personal favourites on display as well including some extremely rare pieces I had never seen IRL before. Including to name a few a Maxim Tokerev MMG, RSC French Semi auto WW1 rifle, and my personal favourite a Browning WZ.28 (polish improved version of the BAR.

Highly recommend.

And now for some completely different programming! The team over at Eastern Allied Forces Living History don’t just like to reading about items on the eastern front of WW2 but we also like to read about other theatres of the war also.

One of the most interesting to me is the pacific theatre. Especially early on in the fighting. The battle of Hong Kong would be the first engagement between British Forces and the Japanese, resulting in a Japanese victory.
