Southwick Brewhouse

Southwick Brewhouse Victorian brewhouse turned beer and cider shop, with all brewing equipment intact upstairs. Visit our website or phone in store today to reserve your beer!

Orders can be done over the phone and delivered straight to your door! (p&p charges may apply) Southwick Brewhouse was opened to the public in 2005 when Martin Bazeley from Suthwyk Ales decided it would be the perfect place to set up a real ale and cider shop. With his own brews to look after Martin realised the need to bring in some help. Just at that time Al Stringer had sold the Hawkley Inn near Liss and was keen to bring his expertise in the real ale market to run the Brewhouse, which he has been doing ever since. All the brewing equipment upstairs is available to the public to look around and see how things were done in the 1940's when Dick Olding was brewing there and supplying the Golden Lion next door and the original steam engine runs at the weekend to show exactly how all the old machinery worked. With over 150 different beers and ciders Southwick Brewhouse is the perfect place to stock up on a variety of local and foreign beverages and our hampers make great gifts for any occasion! In May 2013 Al decided to give the pub trade another shot and took up residence at the Carpenters Arms in Norfolk. Matt Hallett took over the running of the Brewhouse, just as tall, hairy and knowledgeable as Al, he is sure to help you find what you are looking for.

Mission: To stock an ever changing supply of real ale from all parts of the UK, which are not available in any of the mutiples. Heaven for the discerning drinker.

Operating as usual

Brass Castle Monsters of the Deep (440ml can, 6.5% ABV, vegan, gluten free) - Southwick Brewhouse

Experiments are the foundation of modern science, and therefore a wonderful thing. But experiments can go horribly wrong. Just ask my A-Level Physics teacher. Fortunately Brass Castle’s Monsters of the Deep is an unmitigated success. Along with the promised monsters, the can features windmills, li...

Farmageddon Gorse IPA (440ml can, 6.4% ABV, vegan) - Southwick Brewhouse

There’s nothing quite like a bubble bath at the end of a busy, tiring day. But you wouldn’t drink it, would you? Or would you? It’s fair to say that Farmageddon’s Gorse IPA is going to split opinion. Coming out of the can, it foams like a bubble bath. It tastes of soap, but in…

Unity Fresco - Southwick Brewhouse

Fresco by Unity is a wheat beer in the Belgian style (a ‘witbier' beer) but with a couple of twists. The texture is light and pillowy with a hint of cloves.

Between the Great Wars, two brews were made, the one known as five shilling and the other as seven shilling - the beer costing 5d and the ale 7d a pint. Yes, a pint, which in modern money would be about 2p and 3p!
