Edinburgh’s festivals season is approaching!

The University is playing it’s part by providing spaces for venues, starting with the Edinburgh food festival from 23 July to 01 Aug in George Square Gardens.

Also in George Square Gardens, Assembly will occupy the east side and Underbelly the west side, plus Bristo Square also has an outdoor stage. Assembly will run preview performances 29 July to 05 Aug and the shows run 06 Aug to 30 Aug. Underbelly performances in George Square Gardens run 05 to 29 Aug.

The Edinburgh International Festival is planning to present its chamber music series, normally held in the Queens Hall, on a temporary stage in the quadrangle of Old College, 07 to 29 Aug. Old College Quad will also be the venue for Traditional Music in the evenings and some Spoken Word events in collaboration with the Edinburgh International Book Festival.

This year’s Edinburgh International Book Festival will be staged in conjunction with the University’s Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) from 14 to 30 Aug from its new home at ECA’s Lauriston Place building.

For our students using libraries in the vicinity of festivals events – eg the Main Library, New College Library @ 40 George Square or the Law Library in Old College - in case of noise interference, alternative bookable study space is being opened in Hugh Robson Building Basement 27 July to 01 Sept 9-5 daily (weekend opening is to be kept under review and may be discontinued if usage is very low). These spaces will operate as per the libraries, ie book via SeatEd, spaces will be monitored.
