East Kilbride History Society East Kilbride History Society was formed in 1982. We meet every second Tuesday and at each meeting we have different speakers covering a range of subjects


Due to the current guidelines the remaining meetings in April, May and June will not take place. The position will be reviewed as further information is made available. It has also been decided that the day trip in July will not go ahead. It may be possible to have the day trip in September subject to guidelines. As always the health and safety of our members is paramount. I will keep you posted.


Our next meeting is Tuesday 12 March at 7.30pm.in The Murray Owen Centre. Our speaker will be Lesley McTaggart who will be giving a talk on 'My holiday in China' with slides. Looking forward to it. Hope to see you there


Come along on Tuesday 11 December 2018 for our next talk ' JFK'. Roy Johnstone will tell us about JFK's assassination. As it is Christmas, there will be refreshments(strictly non-alcoholic) and nibbled. Same time and place. See you there!


Next meeting is Tuesday 13 November 2018. Come along and see a film about 'Moscow to St Petersburg' presented by David Atkins. Same time and place. Bring your own popcorn!


Next meeting is Tuesday 9 October at 7.30pm. Talk is on Bud O'Neill and Lobey Dosser. Come along and hear about the cartoon character and his creator from Craig Mains. All welcome at The Murray Owen Centre East Kilbride. £12 for membership or £3 per meeting. See you there!


New season starts on Tuesday 11 September at 7.30pm in The Murray Owen Centre, 1 Liddell Grove East Kilbride. The speaker is Warwick Louth and title of talk is 'Covenant with the Devil - Monmouth's first Rebellion.
Should be good. Come along and join in. £12 for a years membership or £3 a meeting.

EKHS Day Trip

We are planning to visit Gosford House in East Lothian on Saturday 28 July and there are spare seats on the bus. We will be leaving from Andrew Street, East Kilbride (Civic Centre) at 11am, stopping in North Berwick for lunch/refreshments and then on to Gosford House for a tour of house and gardens. Gosford House is the seat of the Earls of Wemyss and March and is not open to the public.
We will then go to The Maitlandfield Hotel for high tea. We will arrive back in East Kilbride about 7.30pm. Price is £32.50 per person. Please send a message if you are interested.

East Kilbride History Society's new season starts on Tuesday 13 September. We will now be meeting in the Murray Owen Centre at 7.30pm. Our first speaker is Clifton Bain on The Living History of the Caledonian Forests. Some of the other subjects this season are The Tenement House, The History of Hutcheson's Grammar School,Messages from the Front and a visit to Paisley Abbey. Why don't you come along? We meet on the second Tuesday of the month. Membership is £12 for 8 meetings(September-December & March- June) and £3 for visitors. All welcome.

Welcome to EKHS' page. We meet every second Tuesday evening from September to June excluding January and February. The meetings are held in the Court Suite of the Civic Centre in East Kilbride. We have speakers who give talks on a variety of subjects not just history.

With the virus I was thinking of things to do. Using nls.geo.explore, I looked at old byways of Westwood. Amazing how many sections are hidden. 1.. Between Westwood Baptist and Rockhampton flats.
I was brought up in East Kilbride, now living in Perthshire. My grandfather ran the gasworks in St Bride Street. I would be interested in joining your society, and hearing more.
