🎟️ Book now for our Summer Holiday Creative Programme this week!

Celebrate the final week of the summer holidays with a vibrant programme of artist-led workshops and creative activities inspired by Victory Over the Sun: Encounters with Light.

Explore light, colour, perception and imagination through a week of hands-on creative activities:

☀️ Wed 26 Aug | Sunlight Guardians with Stephanie Archer
Design your own guardian using reflective materials and discover magical light effects through art and storytelling.

🔷 Thu 27 Aug | Marvellous Mosaics with Susan Warlock
Create a striking abstract mosaic tile using colourful tumbled glass.

📸 Fri 28 Aug | Cyanotype Printing with Botanicals with Simone Rudolphi
Explore one of the earliest photographic processes and make beautiful sun-powered prints using natural materials.

🎟️ Workshops are £8 per child
👧 Suitable for ages 8+
👨‍👩‍👧 Accompanying adults attend free

Plus, enjoy Towards the Light, our free collaborative lantern sculpture exhibition until 27 August, where visitors of all ages can contribute their own origami moth to this evolving artwork exploring the relationship between nature and artificial light.

What a weekend for The Light! 💚

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Opening Weekend and helped make it such a special start for The Light.

After so much work behind the scenes, it was amazing to finally open the doors to our new home for culture, creativity and community and see the building full of people.

Across the weekend, visitors enjoyed live music, circus performances, creative workshops, outdoor activities and plenty more, as well as being among the very first to explore our opening exhibitions:
We Are The Durhams: The Durham Light Infantry Exhibition
Victory Over the Sun: Encounters with Light
And this really is only the beginning…

There’s plenty more happening throughout the final weeks of the summer holidays, including artist-led workshops and creative activities exploring light, colour, perception and imagination.

Opening weekend may be over, but we are just getting started! 🙌🔥

Opening times from Saturday 22 August to Sunday 6 September (including the 31 August bank holiday) we will be open 7 days a week.

Monday: 10.00am to 5.00pm
Tuesday: 10.00am to 5.00pm
Wednesday: 10.00am to 5.00pm
Thursday: 10.00am to 8.00pm
Friday: 10.00am to 5.00pm
Saturday: 10.00am to 5.00pm
Sunday: 10.00am to 4.00pm
