Had an interesting morning at Burghead looking at the latest excavations and a few finds. I particularly like this spiral bead C1st or 2nd AD and bone pin probably for a womans headscarf or hair. It was also good to see all the artisans demonstrating stone carving, leatherwork and pottery.

Looking forward to the openday at Burghead tomorrow. See you there.

We jumped forward in time to Acheilidh Heritage Croft yesterday. Angus demonstreated traditional skills like using a foot plough and Lynne had a go at cutting hay. Anna The Badninish Weaver was busy spinning. Morag talked about dyes and herbs but mainly enjoyed the view and learning about how crofters lived in the 1700s. Thanks Fiona for the photos. We had a brilliant day and hopefully will be doing more Crofting Experience days for Historylinks next summer.

We had a brilliant day with Glasgow Vikings at Dingwall last weekend. Morag and Alex joined the parade and in the camp we enjojed the combat and living history demos. Theres some great photos in the Ross-shire Journal.

First The King, then the Vikings.

Dingwall's 800th birthday celebrations continued in spectacular style as Vikings marched through the town before centuries of history, music and Highland culture came alive at Pefferside Park.

Day one of our tour to Hugh Millers cottage in Cromarty. Thee new awning was tested as we set up camp in torrential rain. We got soaked but fortunately it cleared for lunch and we soon dried out. We had a good steady day demonstrating spinning and tablet weaving with plenty of interested visitors. Also enjoyed the demonstrations ranging from Culloden to the Victorian era schoolmaster. We will be returning tomorrow so pop over and see us.
