That's TV Hampshire

That's TV Hampshire visited the House yesterday to find out about our appeal to save Jane's roof. We've been overwhelmed by the number of people who've sponsored roof tiles so far. 🏡 Play your part in the restoration efforts here: www.justgiving.com/campaign/roof-tiles

The Jane Austen Museum in Alton is calling for people to help raise funds to save the original roof of the house.

As inclement weather has damaged the roof over the years, the museum is in need of restoration to secure the author's house for the future.

The museum is asking individuals to sponsor a tile which will be in their name and they will indirectly be a part of the museum's history.

our reporter James Poingdestre has more on this story.

‘The very curtains of her bed seemed at one moment in motion, and at another the lock of her door was agitated, as if by the attempt of somebody to enter. Hollow murmurs seemed to creep along the gallery, and more than once her blood was chilled by the sound of distant moans.’ Happy Halloween 👻 from Catherine Morland and Northanger Abbey... 🎃

On #NationalPoetryDay 📝 we must mention James Austen, Jane Austen's oldest brother, who was a prolific poet. The following poem was written by James for Jane on the publication of her first novel, Sense and Sensibility:

To Miss Jane Austen the reputed Author of Sense and Sensibility a Novel lately publish'd

On such Subjects no Wonder that she shou'd write well,
In whom so united those qualities dwell;
Where "dear Sensibility", Sterne's darling Maid,
With Sense so attemper'd is finely pourtray'd.
Fair Elinor's Self in that Mind is exprest,
And the Feelings of Marianne live in that Breast.
Oh then, gentle Lady! continue to write,
And the Sense of your Readers t'muse & delight.
A Friend.
