Friends of Carshalton Water Tower

Friends of Carshalton Water Tower The Water Tower is unique historic building in the grounds of Carshalton House that is open to the public at various times and available to hire.

The Water Tower is a unique Grade II listed early 18th century garden building sited in the grounds of Carshalton House in Surrey. As the name suggests, this contained a water-powered pump, which supplied water to Carshalton House and the fountains in its garden. However, the building was and is much more than this as it contains a suite of rooms such as the Saloon, the Orangery and a splendid early 18th century bathroom with a tile lined plunge bath. Aside from the Water Tower, there is the surrounding garden including the Hermitage and Folly Bridge. All this is managed voluntarily by the Friends of Water Tower & The Historic Garden Trust. The Friends open the tower on Sundays from April to September and hold events throughout the year. When the Water Tower is not in use then you are able to hire it as a venue for your ouwn functions. Please visit our full website at www.carshaltonwatertower.co.uk for full details.

Operating as usual

It is with regret that due to the continuing COVID 19 situation and the safety of our volunteers and visitors in mind, it has been decided that we will not be reopening or holding events for the remainder of the year.

It is our hope to return in 2021 and have already set provisional opening date of Sunday the 18th of April.

We aim to transfer our events from this year to 2021. This being subject to social distancing requirements and other guidance given nearer the time.

It's a difficult time for all charities and hope that you will be able to continue to support us when we return.

Stay safe and well.

Well today was supposed to be the first opening of the season but instead of being able to walk around the full lake here is a picture of two geese social distancing across the causeway.

We don’t know when our openings and events will restart. That will all depend on the government advice and then the welfare of our volunteers.

As soon as we can give you any news we’ll post it on here and our website.

Until then stay safe, stay inside and we add our thanks to yours for all of the NHS, Emergency services and key workers. 🌈👏

It’s the last weekend of the winter lighting of the Tower with switch off after 31st.

There was a small ‘puddle’ in the lake bed when this was taken.
Here’s hoping that all the rain we’ve had will fill the lake in coming weeks for other photo opportunities.

The Water Tower is open today from 2.30pm

Hope that everyone has enjoyed the food and drink. A nice touch that beer and bangers are linked by 'hogs'.

Tonight was brought to you by the volunteers who have been cooking sausages all afternoon, mashing real potatoes, preparing the tower and will then all be doing the clearing afterwards.
We are very short of volunteers and due to this the event was at real risk of not happening this year.

If you would like to volunteer some time to help at events or at the Tower openings next year please contact us. Even a few hours would help.

16/10/2015

Tomorrow evening is our most popular event. Beer, Bangers and Mash.
