The Height of the Reeds: A Sound Journey for the Humber Bridge

This looks interesting. Hurry though – tickets are going fast!

Head on over to the Humber Bridge, put on a set of our headphones and disappear into a sound adventure, walking the epic span of the Bridge, with a world of sound in your ears. Music by Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen, guitarist Eivind Aarset and electronic wizard Jan Bang gives way to the vast s...

A Moment To Reflect

A Moment To Reflect – A lone figure and the towers of the Humber Bridge are silhouetted against the sunset over Hessle Foreshore

https://humberscapes.com/a-moment-to-reflect-humber-landscape/

The rare inclusion of a lone figure in this landscape photograph from Hessle Foreshore suggests a reflective mood, perhaps one even tinged with a hint of melancholy. This is further enhanced by the…

Back On Safe Ground – A low view point of the Humber Bridge at low tide from down at the river’s edge

https://humberscapes.com/photograph-back-on-safe-ground/

I like my low viewpoints and this is a favourite. The shot was taken at low tide, right down by the river’s edge close to the Humber Bridge north tower. Just here the shingle and pebbles provide a …

Cold River – From Brough Haven the distant silhouettes of the south bank are layered like paper cutouts beneath a watercolour sky

Looking south from Brough Haven, over the mudflats and reed beds to the River Humber and muted horizon of North Lincolnshire beyond. The reeds and grass are rimed with frost and the golden light of…

Furrowed Brows – The moored yachts of the Humber Yawl club add an air of serenity to this early morning photograph from Brough Haven

https://humberscapes.com/photograph-furrowed-brows-at-rough-haven/

Another image from my morning walk around Brough Haven last week. The frosted grass picks up the low golden sunlight,  highlighting the series of concentric furrows that follow the high tide line a…

Golden Gate – Morning frost bathed in a warm, golden light at Brough Haven

https://humberscapes.com/photograph-golden-gate-brough-haven/

The light yesterday morning was lovely – its golden hue warming up the landscape despite the chill from the hard frost. I knew the conditions on the river would make a good photograph as I walked t…

Light And Shadow – Converging lines in the reflections and shadows cast by the Humber Bridge

Another portrait-format shot of the Humber Bridge. This was taken one evening in February and the long exposure has softened the water and the movement in the clouds. Colour balancing the image to …

Losing The Light – Long shimmering reflections below the Humber Bridge

https://humberscapes.com/photograph-losing-the-light/

This image is a departure from my usual wide angle, landscape format but once again the high tide and perfect stillness of the River Humber provide perfect conditions for a stunning image. Silhouet…

Blue Is The Colour: Photograph of the Humber Bridge at night with shimmering reflections

https://humberscapes.com/photograph-blue-is-the-colour/

Taken on chilly and still February evening, the dark underside of the Humber Bridge is smeared across the river’s gently undulating surface. The orange sodium streetlights cast long, shimmering ref…

Loving the clean, minimalist lines in this rendition of the Humber Bridge by artist Ian Mitchell!

The impressive Humber Bridge, near Kingston upon Hull, England, is the fifth-largest single-span suspension bridge in the world. It spans the Humber between Barton-upon-Humber on the south bank and Hessle on the north bank, connecting the East Riding of Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.

The best #hullywoodicons yet – the Humber Bridge gets a supporting role in Jim Wardlaw’s homage to Cast Away…

https://hullywoodicons.com/2016/11/04/castaway/

Jim Wardlaw suggested that we recreate the scene from Cast Away starring Tom Hanks on Hessle foreshore with the Humber Bridge in the background . I asked Jim why Cast Away and he said it was really…

It’s Been Forever Since

Another early morning on Hessle Foreshore. The sun is still below the eastern horizon but the rose-coloured light gives the clouds a fabulous salmon pink hue which contrasts nicely with the cold, clean blue of the January sky. The chill of the morning leaves the air still leaving the Humber’s surface almost undisturbed. Its mirror-like quality perfectly reflects the colours of the sky providing stark contrast for the silhouette of the Humber Bridge and the timbers jutting from the water in the foreground. Location: Hessle Foreshore Exposure Data: 20 sec ƒ22

Early morning light from beyond the horizon lights up the clouds with a beautiful salmon pink, contrasting nicely with the blue January sky.
