What’s new in the gallery? 🦖

Le Corbusier’s etching and aquatint ‘Dinosaure’ (1948) is perhaps one of the most playful artworks currently on display. Incredibly rare, originating from an edition of only 100, this hand-signed print is already proving to be a favourite (amongst both staff and visitors!).

Although he was most famous as an architect, Le Corbusier painted or sketched almost every day. It was through his paintings and works on paper that he, as he phrased it, “arrived at architecture”.

Crucially, Le Corbusier was an avid printmaker and had been educated at the art school of La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland. ‘Dinosaure’ is one of his finest prints, and is particularly special for demonstrating the artist’s lifelong engagement with the natural world. He regarded the study of nature to be a study of harmony and order, and mirrored the contours and organic forms found in nature within his own compositions.

The artwork has only just hit our gallery walls and is an absolute stunner in the flesh. Visit us now to take a look before it gets snapped up.

We’ve filled a corner of our gallery with a selection of gorgeous abstract pieces. Pasmore, Chillida and Hodgkin make a perfect trio, and this curated collection of prints is proving to be a vibrant oasis in the midst of January’s typical chaos.

Stop by our gallery this week for a moment of calm. Dream of Pasmore’s ‘Blue Ocean’ or escape into Hodgkin’s ‘Summer’. Fancy a sneak preview? Swipe to learn more about each artwork.

Happy Birthday Chris! 🎊🎈

Fresh off the back of all the recent Christmas and New Year’s festivities, we’re having one more little celebration of our own here at Hidden.

He wouldn’t thank us for telling you, but our founder Chris is celebrating an important birthday (though we’re far too discreet to mention any numbers). For over a decade now he’s been the bedrock of Hidden, and we’re delighted to wish him many happy returns!

In tribute to his heritage as a proud Yorkshireman, we’ve put together a compilation of Chris’s favourite Northern classics. These fabulous artworks by Hockney, Moore and Lowry can each be found on display at our gallery in The Clifton Arcade.

🎄24 Masters for 24 Days: Day 24 – Keith Haring🎄

Into 84 (1983) is a bold offset lithograph in colours on wove paper, signed in silver ink.

Between 1980 and 1989, Haring achieved international recognition and participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions. His first solo exhibition in New York was held at the Westbeth Painters Space in 1981. In 1982, he made his Soho gallery debut with an immensely popular and highly acclaimed one-man exhibition at the Tony Shafrazi Gallery.

This remarkable poster was produced to promote a 1984 exhibition of Haring’s work at the Tony Shafrazi Gallery. The bold design was inspired by a photograph taken by Haring’s contemporary Tseng Kwong Chi of the legendary choreographer Bill T. Jones.

A fitting conclusion to 24 Masters for 24 Days!

🎊24 Masters for 24 Days: Day 23 – Joan Miró🎊

Untitled III from Lithographe II (1975) was produced for the second volume of Miró’s catalogue raisonné of lithographs, published in 1975. The artist created a selection of original lithographs to accompany the text, which were inserted at intervals throughout the book. A deluxe edition of 150 - from which this example was sourced - was released as a luxurious boxed set, printed onto BFK Rives fine art paper with the pages loose and unbound.

A beautifully realised lithograph from one of the great Masters of Modern art.

Swipe to see two new hand-signed Miró editions that will be heading our way in the New Year!

🎥24 Masters for 24 Days: Day 22 - David Hockney🎥

Hollywood Bowl (Title Page) (1965) is the frontispiece to A Hollywood Collection, an important early print portfolio by David Hockney. Hand-signed and dated in pencil, this offset lithograph in colours was printed on handmade wove paper and introduces one of the artist’s most playful graphic projects.

Conceived as an “instant art collection,” A Hollywood Collection brought together six colour lithographs drawn on stone and aluminium plates, each presented with illusionistic frames. Hockney produced the portfolio at Kenneth Tyler’s newly opened Gemini Ltd. workshop in Los Angeles, at a moment when he was beginning to define his enduring relationship with the city and with printmaking.

As the title page, Hollywood Bowl sets the tone for the series, anchored by one of Los Angeles’s most iconic cultural landmarks.

Stay tuned for Day 23!

🎁24 Masters for 24 Days: Day 21 - Alexander Calder🎁

Spirals and Forms (c.1965) is a vibrant lithograph in colours on wove paper, capturing the exuberant visual language that made Alexander Calder one of the most revolutionary artists of the 20th century.

Through his iconic hanging mobiles, Calder transformed sculpture by introducing movement and chance, giving rise to the concept of kinetic art. Alongside these works, his practice encompassed paintings, drawings, prints, and the monumental “stabiles” that anchor space with equal authority.

In the later years of his career, Calder became an avid lithographer, using the medium to revisit the same spatial dynamics, rhythm and buoyant energy found in his sculptures. Spirals and Forms echoes these concerns beautifully, translating movement into line and colour with joyful immediacy.

These lithographs are now highly sought-after and stand as spirited celebrations of Calder’s enduring sense of play and invention.
