Weather’s pish the noo eh? Storm Dennis hingin about this weekend as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit, so here’s a reminder of the warm sunny East Coast summer from last year. We’ve already been in touch with bearded tv weirdo Noel Edmonds to get him to use his mystic Cosmic Ordering system to book us even better weather for our diesel running days this year. Taps aff!

We're very grateful to Mr Duncan McIntosh of Duncan McIntosh Trailers, Brechin, for the generous donation of a 15' Lang 8B2 lathe which will be a big boost to the scope of machining we can do in house. Thanks also to Geddes Group of Swirlburn for the transport. It's a lot bigger than our current Colchester!

Just a wee update...

What’s the best drink when it’s sunny? Cider of course! So in the hope of tempting the sun out for the weekend we’ll also have locally handmade Cairn O’ Mohr vintage cider on tap at the bar.

At the Caledonian Railway we like to support local businesses and Cairn O’ Mohr have been producing berry wines and ciders just along the road in Errol, Perthshire since 1987. The vintage cider is made in small batches with 100% Tayside apples picked by hand from the orchards of the Carse of Gowrie. It tastes fantastic and is lovely and refreshing on a hot day.

It's August already, can you believe it? With our running weekend rapidly approaching we’d better share the timetable for the FREE BUS service between Montrose and Bridge of Dun station! It’s operated by our pals at the Angus Transport Group and it’s FREE ✔️

This bus service - which COSTS YOU NOTHING to travel on - runs throughout the weekend and a lot of scientific effort went into making it connect with our trains. The bus geeks tell me it’ll be a different old banger out on both days so remember to bring a red pen 🖍

For folk arriving by national rail services you can catch the bus from the stop directly opposite Montrose station. How much is the bus? It’s FREE to you so put your money away (don't worry you can spend it on drink on the train) 🍺🍺

Caledonian Railway receives Queen's Award.

The volunteers of the Caledonian Railway are extremely proud to have received the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.

Yesterday evening, the Lord Lieutenant of Angus, Georgiana Osborne, attended a ceremony at the railway to present the award to the volunteers.

The Queen's Award is an incredibly prestigious award and is the highest accolade any volunteer organisation can receive, being the volunteer equivalent to an MBE.

We are honoured to accept this award as it recognises all of the hard work the the team have put into the railway over the last 40 years.

Ahead of our meet the team day, we thought we would post some photos of different things that our volunteers get up to. As you will see, we all get involved with many different jobs!

Some volunteers came with their knowledge of engineering, while others joined with just their interest to get involved.

If you would like to find out more, some of our volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions you may have this Saturday at Bridge of Dun station. We hope to see you there!

*** THIS SATURDAY ***
Get involved! Join our team

To keep the wheels turning, our volunteers do a huge amount of work behind the scenes... there really is something to suit everyone!

Are you interested to know more? This Saturday we're holding a “Meet the team” day at Bridge of Dun Station, and we’d like to invite you to come along and say hello!

You do not need any specific skills to volunteer with us. If you’re keen and willing to learn, we’d love to welcome you to the team.

Did you know? The railway has recently been given The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, which is the highest award given to volunteer groups in the UK – so this is a fantastic time to come onboard!

Volunteering at our railway is a great way to:

- Make new friends and be part of a diverse team
- Challenge yourself in a rewarding volunteer environment
- Pass on your knowledge and experience to others
- Learn new skills, which can help towards a career. Just ask any of our team who have gone on to have successful engineering careers as a result of experience gained volunteering with us.

Why not come along to Bridge of Dun Station this Saturday (29th June) and have a quick chat with us about getting involved?
