Today sees the beginning of lockdown easing in Scotland. However, the Scottish Government guidance is still to remain local and to avoid travel by car where possible. Whilst we are looking forward to welcoming back visitors, Crathes Castle Garden & Estate will remain closed for the time being. We will be reviewing this regularly.

Coronavirus emergency: Events 20th March - End May

As our priority, first and foremost, is the wellbeing of our volunteers, staff and visitors, we are following national advice concerning social distancing and (mass) events and gatherings. With a heavy heart we took the difficult decision to postpone all of our events from 20th March until the end of May, subject to ongoing review.

Full refunds will be offered to anyone who bought tickets for events – in the first instance you should contact the property you made the booking. Of course, if you wish your ticket price to be used as a donation, we’d be very grateful as this will help our charity through this disruptive period and allow us to keep on conserving our buildings, protecting our wildlife, cleaning our coastlines and looking after our landscapes, even in these most difficult of circumstances.

Last autumn we put a pine marten nest box up at one of our Aberdeenshire properties. Earlier this year we set a camera up to keep an eye on the box and this is what we found! We don't know yet if it will nest in the box, but so far so very exciting to see a pine marten even taking an interest in the box!

Just finished sorting out the last camera trap footage from Banchory Primary School P6 at Crathes Castle. I loved this beautiful roe deer with amazingly furry looking antlers and seemingly unaware of a bit of vegtation hanging in them.

oh goodie - you're open! but so much of the garden chained off... no need for that. at all... sorry. 4/10. must try harder.. p.s. the staff on duty are doing a great job!
Tues 19th May 2020 - With most people adhering to lockdown guidance and not even seeing family it really upset me this morning to see the three older male drivers of these cars meeting up and unloading their bikes to go for a jolly. Observed around 10.30-10.40am.
There is an alarming situation occurring in the world, today. A situation called;" food poverty." Food poverty affects every single country, in the world. Even nations who are superpowers still suffer from food poverty and homelessness.Millions of people are homeless and go hungry everyday, in thousand of countries across the world. Britain has reported that 1.5 million Britons reported having not eaten, due to not have the funds to purchase food with, nor access to food. Including, more than one million Britons, who have reported losing all of their income. Due to the pandemic, over a third believe that they aren't entitled to government assistance. Britain's food banks are seeing a three hundred percent rise in the number, of people going hungry. Including, the number of people coming in for emergency food parcels. British food banks are still struggling to source, enough food. Scotland, is seeing a dramatic rise in food poverty. Twenty-one percent of Scottish single parents who are most at risk, experience food poverty. Nearly half, of all Scottish mothers age twenty-five and below, skip meals to feed their children. Often going hungry, while three hundred and eighty thousand pounds of food, in Scotland is wasted. Two hundred thousand people in Ireland, suffer from food poverty, sixty thousand being children who all go hungry and many are unable to buy food, nor do they have access to food. Even knowing this, thousands of countries across the world, still waste millions of pounds of food that could be helping to feed the hungry. But there is a solution to this problem, it involves world governments and people working together to help end homeless and hunger. If, you have extra food, don't throw it away, don't dump it and give any extra food that you have to your local food bank and help feed the world. I challenge everyone, to take the 2020 Great Food Bank Challenge. By accepting this challenge, you can make a difference in your country and your community. By donating any extra food, you don't need to your local food bank. Millions of people are counting on us, they are counting on our courage to take the 2020 Great Food Bank Challenge and put food back on the tables, of those who are most in need. Please share this message with your friends, your communities and the world and take the "2020 Great Food Bank Challenge"-Thank you.
