[Cérémonie du 5 juin 2026 - Ceremony on 5th June 2026]
🇫🇷 Cette semaine de commémorations a encore été marquée par des moments forts…Ce 5 juin 2026, le Memorial Pegasus a organisé une cérémonie dans le cadre du 82e anniversaire du Débarquement, notamment en présence des vétérans britanniques de la « Taxi Charity for Military Veterans » et des vétérans américains de la « Best Defense Foundation ». Deux d’entre eux ont pu prendre la parole lors cette cérémonie : le britannique Paul Terry et l’américain Joe Schott, qui a pu à cette occasion revoir Sophie de Givré, qu’il avait rencontrée en 1944.
🔷 D'autres discours ont marqués la cérémonie : Celui du révérend Gavin Smith et celui de Kerry Ricketts, petite-fille du Major Howard. Les groupes « Pegasus Pipes & Drums », « Massed Band of Pegasus Memorial » et les élèves du collège Saint-Louis de Cabourg ont accompagné en musique cet hommage.
🔷 L’après-midi s’est poursuivi avec un programme bien rempli : un concert du « Massed Band of Pegasus Memorial », un autre du « Shropshire Brass Ensemble », un rassemblement de motos d’époque et l’inauguration de la nouvelle exposition temporaire « Go to it ». Elle présente des portraits de vétérans de la 6e division aéroportée britannique. Le vétéran Philip Aucott et le photographe Robin Savage étaient tous deux présents pour l’inauguration. Cette exposition est à découvrir jusqu’au 31 août 2026.
🔷 Le 6 juin, plusieurs moments sont venus compléter ces journées de commémorations : une cérémonie devant les six stèles commémoratives a permis aux familles de rendre hommage aux soldats du 52e Groupe, suivi de la descente des drapeaux lors de la « Sunset Ceremony ». Enfin, le Chevrolet Radio de la « VMARS » était également présent toute cette journée dans le parc du musée et a pu effectuer des liaisons radios avec d’autres radios amateurs.

🇬🇧 This week of commemorations was once again marked by some memorable moments… On 5th June 2026, the Memorial Pegasus organised a ceremony to mark the 82nd anniversary of the D-Day Landings, attended by British veterans from the "Taxi Charity for Military Veterans" and American veterans from the "Best Defense Foundation". Two of them spoke at the ceremony: Paul Terry from Britain and Joe Schott from the US, who was able to meet up again with Sophie de Givré, whom he had met in 1944.
🔷 Other speeches marked the ceremony : one by Reverend Gavin Smith and one by Kerry Ricketts, Major Howard’s granddaughter. The “Pegasus Pipes & Drums”, the “Massed Band of Pegasus Memorial” and pupils from “Collège Saint-Louis” in Cabourg provided musical accompaniment for this tribute.
🔷 The afternoon continued with a packed programme: a concert by the "Massed Band of Pegasus Memorial", another by the "Shropshire Brass Ensemble", a vintage motorbikes rally, and the opening of the new temporary exhibition "Go to it". It features portraits of veterans from the British 6th Airborne Division. Veteran Philip Aucott and photographer Robin Savage were both present for the opening. The exhibition runs until 31st August 2026.
🔷 On 6th June, several events rounded off these days of commemoration: a ceremony in front of the six memorial stones allowed families to pay tribute to the soldiers of the 52nd Group, followed by the "Sunset Ceremony". Finally, the “VMARS” Chevrolet Radio was also present throughout the day in the museum grounds and was able to establish radio links with other amateur radio operators.
