Jesús Mejía presents a new body of paintings in his exhibition “Consagración de la carroña”, opening at Galería Talentum 13 October 2026.
Animals have long appeared in Mejía’s work, but in this new series they take on a more central role. Sheep, wolves, vultures, hyenas and goats are used to explore ideas around innocence, submission, aggression and control.
Inspired by Baroque painting, tenebrism and religious imagery, Mejía creates large-scale figurative scenes in which human and animal forms are closely connected. Across the series, ideas of violence, power and dogma are brought into a contemporary setting.
