Introducing Sophie Heywood
Now an Artist in Residence at Space Studios

Slide 2: Sophie is an abstract artist based in Pueblo Nuevo, Andalucía, whose work explores themes of the Mediterranean outdoors and the emotions that it emits within us.

Slide 3: Her practice is rooted in layered compositions which build in intensity and reflect the emotional texture of the Mediterranean landscape

Slide 4: Sophie’s work has been developed alongside a life shaped by motherhood, relocation and personal transition. Her latest collection “Mediterranean light” carries a quiet sense of tension and presence.

Slide 5: Expanding across colour and form her paintings powerfully communicate the emotions we feel when we experience the Mediterranean landscape

Typical of me to get diatracted but I couldn't resist this side quest. The depth of the pigment almost looks like loose powder paint. The thick hamdmade paper feels so special to touch. These are very cool creations. I cant wait to see how they look framed and hang them for one of our best clients.

We haven’t even had the chance to frame her yet — already stepping in to replace five works that have gone from our current exhibition by .

Part of our 2026 Artists in Residence show at Space Studios Gallery, alongside works by and .
Each strip of paper is painstakingly cut and delicately placed, forming intricate sculptural compositions. Every piece takes around 20 days to complete — a true labour of precision and patience.
