This is Anneliese Michel, the young German woman whose real-life tragedy inspired the famous movie The Exorcism of Emily Rose.
📉 What Actually Happened?
The Diagnosis: At age 16, Anneliese began suffering from severe seizures and was diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy and depression.
The Turn: As her mental and physical health declined, she began experiencing terrifying hallucinations, seeing "devil faces," and hearing voices telling her she was damned.
The Exorcisms: Deeply religious, her family turned away from medical doctors and called in the church. Over 10 months, two priests performed 67 secret exorcisms on her.
The Physical Toll: The injuries and black eyes seen here were the result of severe physical distress, restraint, and self-inflicted trauma during these intense sessions.
⚖️ The Tragic End
In 1976, Anneliese passed away in her sleep at just 23 years old. She weighed only 68 pounds. The official cause of death was malnutrition and dehydration—she had refused to eat, believing it would starve the demons.
Her parents and the priests were later found guilty of negligent homicide for failing to get her medical care.
